Did we go back in time to March 2013? The American still has a 27-month notice, I believe.

It can be worked out with a higher exit fee.

FWIW, I'll start considering this rumor as possibly being true when someone more reputable without UCONN bias can back Gray up. It just seems like wishful thinking out-loud right now.

while yes, it would still be over a years notice. You'd see the exit fee be similar to what Louisville and Rutgers paid.

Given that UConn is one of the "Group A" schools per the AAC's TV contract, I would think there would be much more on the table than Rutgers and Louisville had. The whole TV contract could be voided if any other school left as well. The exit would be much more contentious.

Besides, the point is, once you've breached the 27 months, what difference does an extra 12 really make? I guess WVU sort of answered that question, though.

I'm curious: What do you expect Scott Gray to say on UConn's flagship radio station, WTIC 1080, when 30 days come and go and it hasn't happened?
Then it'll just be another anti-UConn conspiracy. 03-zzz

but i will mention this. does anyone really believe the b10 would let this sort of leak happen? like the ACC they get their sh!t signed, committed, & finalized before it ever hits the media.

UConn's replacement in the AAC? UMASS

Nah. No need for a New England replacement once UConn is gone. New England is well populated, but not very college football crazy. It's one thing to a second and third fiddle league in the college football crazy south---but is just useless being a 3rd fiddle college league in New England.

If the AAC even holds together, my guess is the league shifts more to the south and west. Adding a school like UMass just increases the chances that Houston, SMU, and Tulsa join with BYU to create a 16 team MW. Maybe if they develop into a solid FBS performer, UMass might have the fanbase to make a great addition to the AAC---but right now, they are not viable for the conference.

I'd go so far to say that if UConn leaves the AAC, that may be fatal for UMass long term in football. UMass would really be on an island with no one around them to help them out.

It would be an interesting dynamic change for the AAC that's for sure with Temple so far removed. Assuming AAC requires a 3/4ths vote for major issues like most leagues, three would still be the number to block changes (and expansion) but the Midwest and Northeast would be two votes instead three. The southern bloc where all but one member was playing in CUSA in either 2013-14 or 2012-13 would have sufficient votes, if united, to do whatever they like.

West Virginia left for 4X the exit fee for zero lead time, and Syracuse, Pitt, Rutgers and Louisville left for 1.5X the exit fee so the precedent seems to have been set for how much it cost to leave early. I don't know if the settlement money for the five football schools and the C7 has been paid yet. If it has UConn can just cut a check for however much and that would be that.

How much money would UConn have to leave on the AAC table if they were to leave now? If I'm not mistaken, they are in line to get a large chunk of the NCAAT money forfeited by the BE schools that left earlier.

That wouldn't keep them from wanting to go to the B1G, of course. But it would enrich the schools left behind in the AAC. Leaving for a less lucrative gig - the Big 12, for example - might give them more pause.

I'll believe it when I see it. However, if true, I agree with those who commented that it may be tied to the proposed revisions to NCAA rules regarding conference championships. In addition, I wonder whether it could be related to discussions with cable carriers about the price paid to the BTN for carriage in the NYC area.
