Good gosh. Some people don't appreciate how the front office handled the situation with Lionel Hollins. For them to have an abrupt and shocking end, it may be seen as poetic justice.

For the millionth time, Lionel was given many opportunities to meet those guys half way and he declined. I didn't want to see Lionel go either but he didn't do himself any favors on the way out.

Yeah, I'd want to hear more to establish he was clearly the wronged party than I've heard so far, instead of having contributed similarly if not equally to the divorce.

To be clear, I did not agree with not re-signing, but I can't tell anyone to accept a rumored adversarial working condition with anyone, or how much money to spend. What I did say at the time was that it reminded me of the quote that Sonny Corleone said about Michael, "Tom, this is business and this man is taking it very, very personal." At the time, I saw the Grizz in reference to Michael. And the antics of Hollins as the "it."

But that's for another thread.

Chickens coming home to roost?

Whose?

A year after BS'ing the situation with Lionel Hollins to be going through this themselves.

Pera's siding with Hollins? Or just mere karma?

Karma.

Hollins was Heisley's guy, not Wallace's. I don't see LH having an ally when Heisley was out.

That was a joke someone put out there.

Grizz ain't paying a coach as much as KY is paying Cal.

Geez. If it had been a white dude named Larry Hollins you wouldn't have given two sharts about his being let go.

Were you bitching about Fratello getting canned after two consecutive playoff appearances?

Just got off the phone with Chris Wallace. Quick report coming soon, but Dave Joerger is and will remain the coach.

The ESPN coverage of the story. The reported Pera statement is interestingly routine, given the history and posture when they arrived. Perhaps that informs the rumors of the breakdown between Pera and Levien... Or perhaps that reflects the poor timing of this sudden development.

Quick "take 5" from Calkins:

Just got off the phone with Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace. Five quick things I learned (with a full column to come soon):

1. Dave Joerger is still the head coach and will be the head coach going forward.
2. John Hollinger, according to Wallace, “is a part of our basketball department.”
3. Wallace was not in Chicago with the team this weekend, but got a call from Robert Pera “who alerted me that this might be a possibility.”
4. Wallace last set foot in the Griz offices “sometime last summer.”
5. Wallace plans to talk to every Grizzlies player, and their agents, before he goes to sleep tonight.

Oooo. I see what you did there. While I don't necessarily agree with the insinuation, still... Zing. Booo!!! But, Zing.

Were you just on the radio saying Gasol wouldn't have been injured if Hollins had remained coach? Seriously?

Pull the jackassery out if you want, but that is crap Saluki.

Fratello had a losing season before he was let go, not two playoff seasons.

I supported the Iavoroni hiring. I thought the Hollins hire was a joke.

See you are the one making it black or white.

Because I can defend Cal all day long and say I want Lovie Smith fired, but I guess you will define me because you know I'm black.

Good job by you Wolo, good job by you.

That is a travesty.

Even if it's just a consulting role, why not utilize a basketball guy you are paying?

A little more....

1. Dave Joerger is still the head coach and will be the head coach going forward. Said Wallace: “This has nothing to do with Dave.”

“We’re in the process of reaching out,” he said.

6. When I asked Wallace how long he expected to be calling the shots, he said only, “We want to concentrate on the job at hand. We’ve got a draft coming up, free agency, summer league. There’s a whole overflowing plate of things to do and that is the emphasis right now.”

7. Wallace certainly didn’t gloat about the ouster of the men who replaced him in the Griz front office, but he did say, “When I first took the job, I made a promise to the city that there would be a parade down Beale Street. I still want to fulfill that promise.”

@ChrisVernonShow 29m
Now bein told story is actually Levien was gonna be gone and Stu Lash (bein right hand man) gone too. Casuality of war....

@ChrisVernonShow 28m
rather than Lash was removed and caused an issue. The issue was Levien vs Pera and once Levien was out, Stu was out.
