Texas made a mistake by running Gilbert off. He had a better career than Ash or Case McCoy.

It's amazing how much talent Texas has wasted over the years.

It seems like Texas should have better results since they usually have recruiting classes near the top of all of CFB.

Gilbert was terrible his first year at SMU. He was the 3rd best QB at UT. He did have the best pure talent, but that doesn't matter if you keep throwing it to the other team.

I know Jeffcoat won the Ted Hendricks Award as the nation's top defensive end. However, he wasn't a strong NFL prospect as a defensive end. At 6'3" and 247 lbs., he isn't big enough to play DE and isn't strong, fast or athletic enough to play OLB. I hoped the Saints would take him late in the draft as a project at OLB, but wasn't surprised when no one took him. The kicker is the only one I really expected to be drafted at all from Texas.

Yea, me too. He's really good and the rams had a great draft in general.

Probably the very reason Charlie Strong is now the New Head Coach.

The ironic thing is the 2005-2012 Big East, the one everyone hated so much, regularly had more players drafted than the B12 did this past year. There are probably over a couple hundred players from that era that are still in the NFL or spent significant time in the NFL.

Too much is made over NFL draft day. All it provides is bragging rights for the fans. About half of these players won't be playing next year and most will be unemployed in 5 years.

For example, based on NFL data, there are currently 39 Alabama grads in the NFL, compared to 41 from OSU and even Cincinnati has 21.

So whether your drafted or signed as a free agent, the only thing that matters is if you're employed over the long haul - and most of these guys won't. And since alot of them did not graduate, their future will not be bright.

Agreed and that is why I laugh when people try to grade the draft within hours of it being completed. If you want to look at how strong a draft is you have to wait a few years to see how it pans out.

I was talking to a guy at lunch about this. In the 2012 NFL Draft the Cincinnati Bengals took Dre Kirkpatrick in the 1st round. He has been a bust. However, their best pick that year was picking up Vontaze Burfict as an undrafted free agent.

Bottom line, like you said, is it is about getting into the NFL and staying there, not just getting drafted.

Tre Mason in the same offense as Tavon Austin and Steadman Bailey has some scary potential!
