Speaking as a "P5 fan", I could care less if the ACC played the AAC in a Bb challenge. FB is a different matter. I would have interest in playing one AAC school consistently (Navy). The others are of no interest to me because they weren't traditional rivals of Pitt. BB, OTOH, who cares. It's the game of interest to the smaller schools. Why screw it up by making it a clone of the FB side of college sports.

Get honest, you lose interest because your school doesn't matter in any sport.
In FB You likely lose to 3 or 4 AAC schools.

...sorry but I'm just calling it like I see it.

Not only that, but at least two power conferences are involved in multiple "conference challenges". For instance, the Big 10 has a challenge with the ACC and now the Big East. I think the ACC has a second challenge with the A10 for the next few years as well. Thus, really most power conferences are still available for a challenge if both parties wish to do something. So checkmate? Not so much.

RE: Checkmate AAC
SMU this year alone plays Michigan, Indiana, nc state, Gonzaga, Arkansas, all in OOC. We will be just fine thank you. Not to mention the fact that our league includes the defending champs, as well as Cincy, Memphis, Temple, Tulsa and UH- all likely teams to make NCAA or at least NIT.

I will miss Louisville, but losing Rutgers was a non-issue.

and what you don't seem to understand is that in terms of money, perception, branding, etc. the pac is not in a dire situation to consistently keep increasing their BB exposure.

and what you call "meltdown" i call UH fans exposing their own butthurt at the fact that all they have to point to in BB since 1993 is "look at our 1 tourny bid"

after their stupidity in this thread its shameful that UH fans are even allowed to talk BB

Well, that is at least 1 fan base more than Rutgers moves the needle. It's funny, the OSU fans here tell me they could not care less about a game in any sport against Rutgers. The only thing they know about Rutgers is that it is going to hurt their strength of schedule more than it already is hurt in conference.

RE: Checkmate AAC
I wonder what Rutgers can do next to try and stay in the media limelight. I mean, they've had a physically abusive coach, an idiot for an AD attacking the local news media, they ran out a high profile commencement speaker, invited a GREAT replacement and then disinvited him from speaking... what's next? Their President having relations with an intern?

You left out Cincy tool and all three generate more interest than Rutgers.

Saw that shi+ coming from a mile away. He isn't commenting on talent. He's talking about notoriety. Cincy is good, but fans of teams in other conferences aren't demanding to see home and home series with them. Once past UConn and Memphis, the AAC doesn't have any teams that move the excitement needle for fans of other schools. Sorry, but sometimes the truth is the truth.

What dude?

UC is having no problem getting good basketball teams on the schedule for H&Hs. Unfortunately, reality doesn't seem to line up with your 'truth', which is actually just your opinion since it can't be backed up at all. Unless you are 8 years old, everyone knows UC's program has been considered very good for the better part of the last half century. We don't have an issue with notoriety at all.

In college basketball, there are the blue bloods (Kentucky, UNC, Kansas, UConn, UCLA, Indiana, Duke, UofL, etc.) and then you have a second tier of great programs that have stood the test of time which includes UC. If you want to make an argument against that, be my guest. Try to use some actual facts this time. I don't think your personal opinion on basketball carries much weight.

The fact that the AAC doesn't have a challenge actually just hurts the bottom basketball schools in the conference more than UC, UConn, or Memphis. None of those schools have any issue with scheduling high level games.

Same with Temple. Over the last 4 seasons Temple has scheduled regular season home and homes with Georgetown, Texas, Maryland, Duke and Kansas and played in tournaments against Georgia, Clemson, Purdue, Wichita State and Syracuse. This year they are in the C vs C tournament with UNLV, Stanford and Duke.

Temple has done fine for years scheduling games on their own, no need for a conference challenge to get quality teams on the schedule and to come to Philly.

RE: Checkmate AAC
Really confused about numerous things in this thread.

1: Who gives a damn if the AAC has a made for TV conference challenge? People getting their panties in a bunch over nothing.

2: Syracuse and UConn are practically basketball peers and is nothing like the Texas Tech/Texas rivalry in football.

3: Grow some thicker skins people. Yes the title of the thread could've been different but come on. This entire thread was a bash fest with no real info being swung in either direction. Just a bunch of fallacies that made 0 sense at all.

Syracuse isn't anywhere close to UConn in the past 16 years. The rest is just history.

UConn in the modern day eclipses Syracuse and most others by a long shot. Only Duke comes to mind as a peer currently.
