I swear I was thinking something like this could happen to the Ted when I first heard about the Cobb County Braves. It makes sense as a revitalization project and using resources that already exist. Exactly how they will convert the stadium will be interesting. It'll be unique.

The Ted a.k.a. Olympic Stadium as configured for the 96 Olympics.

There is no question that it can be done. How far from the GA State campus is the Ted? Will they have the same problem with how their crowds look in that stadium as UAB has in Legion Field?

How does the distance from the GA State campus to the "Ted" compare to the distance of Legion Field from the newly acquired UAB properties west of I-65? Could that space be eventually utilized as UAB property just as it was suggested the space in Atlanta between the two might be incorporated? That park around Legion Field is a very large generally level property that UAB could develop relatively inexpensively. The city just might be interested in making a deal for the whole thing if UAB had a good plan..

If Turner still owns the Ted, would he benefit from handing it over to the school for naming rights and a tax credit rather than redeveloping the property (considering its downtown location) for some other use?

Their attendance is worse than UAB's on a bad day :(
10 minutes before their kickoff against Jacksonville, they said there were 70 people in the stands.

It is a 1 mile walk from their science building to the Ted. It looks like there are private apartment complexes between them which are likely student housing.

They would be wise to keep it at 30,000. The drawing in the second links looks like they will knock half of it down and pull the field closer to the stands than the Olympic stadium configuration.

The owner is "Atlanta-Fulton County Recreation Authority" per Wiki.

Here is the first concept and vision document. http://media.bizj.us/view/img/2628531/vi...-05-05.pdf
The stadium would be kept at 30k. This would be on campus. The Ted is less than a mile from the downtown campus and about 1/3 of mile from the football practice complex. There will be student housing and mixed use retail there. It will be like FSU's College Town or UCF's Knight Plaza. There will also be a baseball stadium on the footprint of Atlanta Fulton County Stadium incorporating the original Hank Aaron wall.
