No way. Everyone knows that the only reason we get good athletes is because our academic restrictions are so lax.

Also - from the article:
ODU led all Conference USA members this spring with 240 student athletes, representing all 18 sports, earning the Commissioner’s Honor Roll recognition with a 3.0 or higher, and 41 were recognized as Academic Medal recipients with GPA’s of a 3.75 or higher.
WOW!

WOW!
To me, this is the very essence of "Aim High". Congratulations to all of our ODU student athletes.

Good post & find '78.
I like this part of the article:
"ODU led all Conference USA members this spring with 240 student athletes, representing all 18 sports, earning the Commissioner’s Honor Roll recognition with a 3.0 or higher, and 41 were recognized as Academic Medal recipients with GPA’s of a 3.75 or higher".
....sorry reiterating what MonarchManiac said. Yet it is worth repeating in my book.

Looking at their roster from last year to this year, they lost 3. How much that will hurt remains to be seen

From the way I understand it, as long as the students that left remain in good academic standing at another school, it doesn't count against us. Jo Guillford, I believe, graduated, so that would be the same situation as Batten leaving the Men's team. The Women's Basketball team has gone from one of the lowest academic ratings in the country to having a team GPA of 3.0 under Karen Barefoot, which I think is an amazing turn around in a short period of time.

Indeed.
We were looking at APR sanctions had we continued the slide before KB.

I don't think APR has anything to do with GPA. My understanding (and I'll try and find the article) that each kid is worth 2 points a semester. Retention and eligibility. If a kid leaves and is eligible and transfers to a 4 yr we get the retention point if they left with a 2.6 cumulative GPA.
To me is sounds like a quality student-athletes who transfer out of your program don't hurt you but subpar students do. Maybe it's the NCAA's way of saying "recruit better kids"
