Hate to lose him -- but if we had never recruited him, I would have believed we were in great shape at wide receiver. Now that we don't have him, I am right back where I would have been, still believing we are strong at wide receiver.

It is?

Bailey, England, Pascal, Henderson, Pinkard, Privott, Roberts, Spellman, Vaughn, Vaughan...and that's just who's on roster now. We also have 4 more coming in.

Let's make it an even 4---RB Harvey Taylor is leaving in search of more PT elsewhere.

Bailey may not be playing next year do to an altercation with another student. Heard he's a good kid that made a stupid choice.

"Jakwail Bailey has been a model student-athlete in his three years in our program,” Wilder said. “He has been a dean’s list student and he has been active with community service.

“We will follow the court proceedings and we will support Jakwail to the best of our abilities.”

Wilder said he won’t decide whether Bailey will be reinstated to the team until legal proceedings are concluded and ODU administrators have determined whether he is eligible to return to class.

“We tell our football student-athletes that the choices they make are reflective upon themselves, their families, the university and our football program,” Wilder said.

“Our players are held to a very high standard. They are expected to be role models for others on campus and in the community to emulate.”

IMHO, Bobby Wilder and ODU as a whole, are doing things the right way. The above exemplifies this quite well.

At the end of the day, sports are not about playing a game or scoring points. They're about taking boys and turning them into men. Football is no exception to this rule, and what BW and ODU are doing is something we should all be proud of. If you come to ODU to play football and graduate, you'll leave a man. And trust me, this country needs fewer boys and more men.

Wilder appears to be a man with principles. We need this. Maniac you couldn't have said it better.

Okay, even if Bailey doesn't return, I think the WR depth chart is completely fine.

Ok am I the only one wondering what the other guys did to get booted off the team? If BW is willing to wait until Bailey gets through the LEGAL SYSTEM before making a decision, what did the others do to get booted so quickly???? Hell Yorke was here for what 4 months!

What helped Bailey is he's been here for 3 year and was a honor roll student. Heck one of his teachers testified on his behave this past week in court. This teacher did this voluntarily, thinking very highly of Bailey.

I don't know. Can't be a disciplinarian to some and not to all. I am just assuming Yorke didn't do anything illegal. So it's hard to see Bailey getting a pass because he made the deans list a couple times. It'll be interesting to see if the decision BW ends up making will bite him in the butt down the road if he is put in this situation again

Personally, I'm not into second guessing these disciplinary decisions which are being made by Wilder and his staff. There are two major reasons I won't do this. First, up to this point they have given me no reason to do so. Second, they are in a far better position to make informed decisions than myself, especially regarding knowledge of the facts.

Solid point. Just wondering how bad Yorke's mistake was

There could be a difference between breaking a team rule, say on study hall or class attendance, where it's clear your guilty.

In Bailey's case, he's not guilty yet.

You certainly can't wrap all of these things up in a neat little one size fits all box. I would hope, and it seems they do, that the staff would consider what kind of teammate, student, citizen a player is when deciding their future with the team rather than just listing off a bunch of rules with required punishments that don't consider a kid's overall value to the culture of the team, the community, and the university.

Going off previous experience, it is probably some repeated offense. Missed meeting, study hall, whatever...first time you get warned, told what will happen if it happens again....then it happens again (and perhaps again). With Bailey, probably the first time he's ever had any issue.

Moral Turpitude will generally get you booted anywhere, well most anywhere....cough UNC.... cough VT. 03-lmfao

I cannot speak for the program at ODU, but in another program that I am familiar with, a lot will have to do with how a player handles a discretion with the coaches.
In other words, if he fesses up, and is contrite, he will likely get another chance with an administrative violation.
If he lies about it, or displays a confrontational attitude, he likely will be done in short order.

Bottom line, I suspect each situation is unique and we probably will never know the complete story, or the specific criteria used in each instance.
