We have EZ pass here as well. However, there's always still at least one Full Service Lane that has toll taker.

Isn't a toll a double tax? First you're taxed when you buy gas then you're taxed when you drive on the road your gas tax built. Same thing with parking meters. Why do we have parking meters when our taxes already paid for that spot?

Parking meters are pretty much always on city streets.

City streets are generally funded by the city, which does not collect a tax from gas.

I believe that if a road was built by state as toll road and later converted to interstate that it could have a toll.

if Purchase_Parkway were still a toll road when it is converted to be part of I-69 it would remain a toll road.
The toll was removed from it in the late 1980's early 1990's.

a) Congratulations, you're going to double-tax us now (gas tax/tolls)
b) Kill the economy in terms of tourism. No thanks, I'll stay home, rather than drive to.. {insert destination here}
c) drive up the prices on everything else in the economy. YOu think those trucking companies are going to eat the costs of toll roads?

You just watch.. this goes through and your prices go THROUGH the roof for everything.

and independent truckers? Yeah, right.. thought that Obama and company were for the "working man"?

We're getting a bum deal here. Paying more tax than the services cost to maintain.

In New York, the union that represented the toll workers went to court to block EZ Pass and had some success. The toll booths around my area now have typically 2-3 manual toll takers and one EZ Pass lane.

When the tolls booths into Buffalo were taken down, the unions went ballistic. It cut the cost of workers commuting but that didn't matter.

I've often thought that being a fry cook at McDonalds would be much more interesting than being a toll taker. I almost can't think of a job I'd like less than that one.

Especially if Sonny Corleone pulls up.

Truth be know. These Clowns know that Obama can't run again and most of Them are in danger of not getting re-elected anyway so Their only hope is to time the economy to down turn further after Obama leaves office and campaign along with the Media to make the Republicans look like it's Their fault it went South. They will blame Republicans for the big Jump in Health Care, The loss of jobs due to inflation and higher Minimum Wage hikes. all events that kick in at the end of His term and won't be around to take the blame. He Never takes the Blame for Anything.

The current model won't work as people are now driving fewer miles and cars are getting better mileage.

That's horseshit. Funny how the sheep keep believing it.

When I think of the federal government having tolls on interstates, this is what I think is going to happen:

I actually like tolls a lot more than gas taxes, provided you get rid of the latter. Those who actually use the highways should be the ones who pay for them. However, I think tolls are best suited for rural interstates with a lot of semi traffic and not many alternate routes.

Nevertheless, having the federal DOT get involved is a recipe for disaster. State DOTs tend to be pretty incompetent, but they could do worse.
