No news to us, but this is the first time I seen someone outside of Birmingham ding him on his time here.

Well, I don't see how an unbiased observer could look at McGee's tenure here as anything but a dismal failure. Add in the talk around the program about how much better the current staff is. He tucked his tail between his legs and fled the field.

What's not to ding? If you don't wear B'ham/SEC glasses, running before you get sacked to take an SEC OC job is not a step up, its an admission of failure, that you were in over your head.

Everyone outside Birmingham relies on "us" for news when it comes to UAB.

They look at a couple of message boards, read a couple of Drew's articles, and pull some stats from last year and boom. Preview.

Considering another preview listed Greg Franklin at free safety as one of our biggest losses...I don't think that bar is too high.

Seriously, what is the writer referring to? Was there an "incident?"

Not sure not knowing all the details but maybe it alludes to the movie Lean On Me w/ how the Morgan Freeman character put locks on the doors etc. McGee did have a bunker mentality at the end of his tenure though due to his pissing off just about everyone in the Ath Dept

Truthfully Franklin is a huge loss at both positions he played at. Look at his and Crumbley's stats after moving from offense and compare to some other guys.
