Yes, as recently as two years ago.

Other than Austin all of the new guys got the “Quick Hook”. No matter how hard they work this summer they can’t make up for the lack of in-game experience.

You don't think they'll be playing any this summer?

Yes they will be playing but it’s not the same. They won’t be playing Louisville, Cincy, UCONN, SMU, (all twice) and other good teams. Plus there’s a difference in playing a game that doesn’t count as compared to those that can affect RPI, ranking, conference rating, and NCAA tournament seeding.

There's a difference, but not a huge difference. You see guys make huge leaps and bounds over the summer way more than they usually progress during the year because they'll probably play 100s of games over the summer, rather than 30 or so during the season. Plus practice, no travel, etc.
They'd be a bit better off if they got several hundred minutes against top tier competition this past season, but it's nothing to worry about. You can't really replicate the in-game atmosphere, but learning is about in-game repetition and staying in basketball shape. That's done in the off-season. That's how it is in HS, and I don't see college as being different.

If our young guys would have gotten more PT they would be more adjusted to D1 ball thus making more advancement this summer. This didn’t happen and I won’t be at all surprised if most of them still look somewhat lost, especially on D.
No doubt practice makes a player better but playing in a real game with your rear end on the line can’t be duplicated. Getting accustomed to pressure is crucial for a player’s confidence and consistency.
Oh well it’spilled milk now so we’ll find out in November.

Yeah, the trade off is always either success in the here-and-now by playing the older guys or taking lumps now and building for the future by playing the young guys. I was all for playing the older guys, until I saw the final product against UVA. In hindsight, I'd rather have played the younger guys and maybe gotten a worse seed in March and possibly a first round exit.
