Or better yet, if you read some political posts, you will not see what the world is like, but you will be exposed to mouth breathing vitriol.

My all time most hated is "We really can't afford to loose this game." It's the Louisville Cardinals, Tennessee Volunteers, and Mississippi Black Bears all rolled into one of grammar for me.
I think one of the reasons for all the misspellings on message boards, is that people tend to type a message as if they're talking rather than writing, so the sound of the word becomes more important than the spelling.
I do it at times, and I taught English for years.
Also when I'm typing on my iPhone I don't worry about correcting misspelled words because the phone auto corrects. Sometimes it auto corrects to the wrong word because the mispelled word was closer to that version. Just a flaw in code where spell check doesn't necessarily grammar check. & in this instance gives a few dead beats the opportunity to make fun of someone like they're on a school playground. But I therein rejoice because they get to feel good about their otherwise unsuccessful life.
Au contraire, just some mature folks who were raised when there was actually education and English classes and standards in this country, and who still believe that correct spelling and grammar equal clear and effective communication. These folks are just trying to hold back the rising tide of illiteracy in this country and point out that laziness in communicating will at some point impact your message. Few people seem to care or know how to spell these days, which is all the more troubling because few people actually speak to each other.
My favorite pet peeve: "sell", as in "My boat is for sell." Drives me nuts.

Well said. But some people are also just having some fun, since we all make mistakes and laughing at them is healthy. Other people, however, are wound way too tight.

Most folks think the golden age was whenever they were in school--when everyone was smart and literate and well-behaved.
When I was little I remember my grandparents--born in the late 1890s, complaining how my parents' generation (the WWII/depression generation) was lazy, not as smart as they were, etc., etc.

You guys need to spend some time in the real country where letters in many words are optional and interchangeable.
For instance:
I'm are goin to pulip a cheer by tha far and spin a tail bout tha time I got skeered when the tar fell off the car.
Any word can be extended into aditional syllables or drop one or two I needed.

Yep, every generation is always worse than the one before. So which generation is it that's better? The civil war generation? Ww1? Ww2? Vietnam? In reality, today's generation is the most war free, most employed by the actual numbers & not percentages. Coming out of a depression like 6 year era that their grandparents voted in politicians created & are as tough as nails. Who cares if they use acronyms & spell check. In reality, the generation of today is changing the world with technology & creativity. In other words, the young aren't always wrong, & just as in bible times, it may very well be the young leading us out of this crooked & perverse world that yesterday's amazing generation created.

That is so true. But having been a teacher of English for students from age 18 to 55, I can attest to the fact that the younger they got, the more spelling and grammar problems there were. Somewhere along the line, we stopped teaching these skills in school and holding students accountable for proper English skills. And it is really a shame, IMHO. I guarantee there was a high percentage of literacy among my peers in the 1960's and 1970's. We knew how to spell basic words and what a noun and a verb were.
Now, as to behavior, I wouldn't touch that topic with a ten-foot pole.

You may think the P-R forum is vitriol, but the spin room is full of info from all across the nation. Ask Georgia Tech Swagger. The Memphis P-R forum can hold it's own with the best of them. You can't stand your professorial heat thrown back at you. You can't teach this excrement in school forever and get away with it.
Please tell us what the hell does this mean. "Just do not fall into the trap of whining is slapped back." What "vile opinions" on what... according to who... YOU?
I was, after all, trying to give some small suggestion as to where one could expand their mind and thoughts... including you.
Had to leave and did not finish this until now. It's still valid, however.
