Didn't Missouri just take out a $70 million loan for stadium upgrades? That has to be factored into the value. If you're acquiring a business, you're acquiring it's debt also.

Makes sense. Never considered the loan. Thanks for the info.04-cheers

Another weird list. I'm not sure it includes debt or Maryland and Rutgers would be ranked lower than they are. It seems it is mostly based on profit. Obviously something missing from his formula - BC ranked higher than Louisville? Oregon State higher than WV?

Seems weird to me too.
USF is ranked higher than Mizzou, Arizona, TCU, and BYU
I don't know a lot about USF, but that seems odd.

It may not be entirely accurate but it clearly shows how the fish at the bottom have no business swimming in the same ocean as is. Something needs to change.

I would actually think the opposite about both Maryland and Rutgers. If not for debt, I would expect them both a good 15 to 25 spots higher on the list. Louisville too is carrying huge debt, mostly on the football stadium. But, yeah, there are certainly some oddities on the list which don't line up with the common wisdom.

Really? If I look at Indiana and Ball State on here, they aren't in the same ocean but somehow Ball State beat them 3 times in a row in football. And will probably continue to beat them. And somehow NIU pummelled Purdue despite also having about 1/10th the valuation. The fact is that teams like Texas and Ohio State and maybe 18 others are in a different ocean than the other 110 FBS teams, including most of those in their own conference.

Is this sports, or some kind of stock market game?

Yeah, Tesla motors should be shut down because their revenue is not nearly the size of GM, Ford and Chrylser. There should be a higher tier category that allows only GM, Chrysler and Ford to compete and Tesla should be limited to a niche market.

Apple never should have been allowed to compete in the mobile market. Motorola and Nokia were perfectly good companies that had much larger revenues years ago. Ridiculous that Apple was allowed to do that.

And I think Tulane and Suwanee should be moved back to the top tier BCS since they were once there and their "highest level" status should have been "locked in" long ago. I would switch out Tulane and Suwanee with Florida State and Virginia Tech since FSU and Va Tech would never have progressed to the top tier had Suwanee and Tulane been "locked in".

Short Minnesota. State with low population growth, few athletes and too cold to attract Southern athletes that have good options in the South.

Actually debt on Papa Johns Cardinal Stadium is very low. Former Louisville baseball player Matt Helms did a study for a class. It is linked here

"In 2011 the balance sheet budgeted to bring in $18.3 million and spend $12.3 million. The 2011-2012 budget shows debt to be low, out of the $68.8 million of expenses; just $2.9 million is set aside for debt service (Veazey, 2011)."

If you want to live in Malibu, you have to spend the money... same rules apply for FBS. Want to play with the big boys you have to rise up, and this includes lots of money. Just the way it is.

RE: What's Your Favorite CFB Team or Teams Worth?
It's not a coincidence that all of the P5 teams are on the top and all of the G5 teams are on the bottom. It's not a chicken/egg scenario, being in the P5 is a golden ticket. Even Wake Forrest, one of the worst football programs in the history of FBS, rates higher than ever G5 team with the exception of a few, mostly the ones recently demoted Big East leftovers. WF had the dumb luck of joining the ACC in 1953 and has benefited ever since.

So P5 fans, before you go patting yourselves on the back and talking about how this divide justifies your superiority over the G5, remember that this is a rigged system, these numbers aren't based on the actual value of the performance of the individual program but on the value of having the dumb luck of being in a conference that gets to print money.

Good points.

Interestingly, my alma mater (Cincinnati) fell 14 spots from the 2011 list. What changed? We were exiled to the G5. Most of the bottom feeder P5 schools leaped over us.
