I first read this article at 3PM it had about 40 comments. When I got home at 5:45 it had almost five hundred. There are people calling that school and sending hateful email.

I'm afraid that school president done did it. Let him reap the rewards of his guilty white ass.

I think he should be let go. I don't have a problem saying what he did but he lost a lot of support, which a university President needs; plus, he has embarrassed the University in a major way.

If the school is as "white" as it is today then that would say those efforts failed and the school has shrunk or failed to grow. I think that's fair enough but I agree completely it couldn't have been delivered in a worse way and I found his manner of trying to communicate that downright offensive.

Still, I'm not too worked up the man just needs to resign because he can't effectively lead the school anymore.

The core of the problem is that affirmative action awards someone based on their racial makeup. That is racism. How do you think it would have gone over if the President at Grambling said: "We have failed if we are this black a year from now?"

Instead of enrolling students who have shown exceptional coursework, he equates success to enrolling more people of color...Those are spots that will not be filled by people who have excelled. That's phucked up. College universities are supposed to be places where people gain knowledge and life experience. Where hard work is rewarded. Not a place for social justice. There is not another side of the coin here. I hope they can his ass. I'd piss on his head.

I didn't feel he implicated any affirmative action argument. Still, I'm completely against any forms of affirmative action because I believe they are counterproductive.

Dude, they were bragging about how they hired minorities and women. He praised his staff for being proactive. That means they are actively admitting and hiring based on gender and race....not merit and achievement. That should be illegal.

If he would have just said -"We are going to actively recruit minorities because the demographics of the nation are changing, and we want that growing population to view our school as a destination." - I wouldn't have much issue with it. As it stands, he has only succeeded in appearing an embarrassing fool. Wonder if the university trustees are pleased? How about alumni - bet that'll pump up donations - not.

What more would you expect from the home of the students who didn't get into EWU?

I may not agree fully w/ your former position, but your latter statement is a point of commonality. There are several reasons this guy should be fired, including being divisive and losing support.
