Anyone know of another non-SEC school that has beaten both Mannings?

Agreed ---

We have to play these guys for football's sake. Who else in the P5 will give us home and homes that will draw this sort of interest (and much needed money) to the Memphis football program?

That's a difficult nexus to achieve.

How many non-conference schools played both?

I know that Payton only lost to Florida, Nebraska and Memphis in his college career, so unless Nebraska also beat Ole Miss, then the answer is no.

Why are we killing the OM AD for making ludicrously positive statements about his program? Our coaches and AD say stuff all the time that is insanely positive that likely isn't what they really believe.

Look, they already have Memphis for prime recruiting - playing or not playing them won't affect that. If we play them, we have a chance at beating them. If we play them, we put butts in the bleachers and dollars in Memphis. I just don't see that much reason NOT to play bigger programs in our area. The status quo is not getting us better. We won't lose high level bb prospects to the likes of Ole' Miss.
Just my opinion.

Eli was undefeated against Florida (2-0) and Nebraska (1-0), so Memphis is the only college program to tame the Mannings. Although, Archie had his way with the Tigers (3-0).

I agree......completely. You may thank Tom Bowen for this new athletic arrangement. It's all about BB......OM is trying desperately to establish a respectable BB program and inroads into Memphis. This series should never have been initiated and should not be renewed. Apparently Bowen is more concerned about his relationship with Bjork than he is the best interests of the U. of M.

No upside at all. If we win (basketball), big deal. We beat ole miss. That's no better than beating southern miss. If we lose, then we don't hear the end of it from the black bear loonies. After our NIT loss to them in 2010, ole miss fans ate it up. They proclaimed they were the new basketball powerhouse in the mid south haha. It's a lose, lose. Big mistake

Agree. You guys are downplaying this-it could have long term serious consequences for our program. They are building a new basketball arena-look what it did for Nebraska this year.

Never give your competition any foothold in your market and they ARE our competition.

The only upside I can see from our side is earning a one time football payday and the emotional satisfaction of a football (albeit slim) win.

The costs far outweigh the benefits. I hope Bowen's friendship with the Black Bear AD did not factor into the agreement.

Yea, I also was ok with the article till I read the part of bringing big time athletics to the city of Memphis. Maybe a little shot of gamesmanship on Bjork's part? Oh well, just beat em and they'll be the one's sorry for renewing the series....GO TIGERS!!!!

Bingo!!! The Blackbears do have big time national football and baseball programs!!!

OBTW... Coach Rock needs to go after this year. He's had 5 years to build the baseball program and make the NCAA tournament and we're still not there!!!

Duh! Why do you think they do that? Out of the goodness of their heart? You guys are slow. This is a disaster waiting to happen. Why do you think Cal and Josh resisted this so hard and long?

We have the privilege of watching Liberty Bowl level (6-6) football teams from the SEC every year in Memphis, so I don't exactly see how they bring anything different. Now, if OM brought a home game against LSU or Alabama to Memphis, then that's a different story. Those two programs are, indeed, big-time.

OM played UT in Memphis as an OM home game back in the 1990's. That being said, I was being facetious. OM would never give up an on-campus home game.

Yes- that was a newspaper quote troll.

Correct- Memphis affords them the opportunity to see big time basketball athletics- in the University of Memphis, as they already see big time athletic football, whenever Alabama and LSU and the like head to patch.

The fact that ole miss and ut are referenced here daily, and that whenever this discussion comes up it gets several pages, should tell you we should be playing them.

I was referring to the SEC. Tenn, Mississippi and Miss St have long been our rivals in the SEC. Nothing was better than leading off the season against Mississippi in terms of generating revenue and excitement in the city. The idea that every prospect in the city does not know about UT, UM, or Ms St is ridiculous. There are 25 games on every weekend. The fact that we do not get BCS money is all the more reason we need to have 55,000 in the LB as often as we can, which only Louisville and the SEC have ever done.
