I never found Jay Leno funny at all and barely enjoyed Letterman. The only late night talk show I've ever really enjoyed was Late Night with Conan O'Brien.

That show was pretty good man. Nowadays Kimmel is king. Ferguson is great too.

Yes... yes he is.

I think Kimmel, Fallon, O'Brien, and Leno are all likeable guys. They all seem nice. I think Letterman became a jerk in his later years and Colbert may come across as a jerk too. We'll see. He is a great interviewer, imo.

Colbert is supposed to come across as a jerk. That is his character--a caricature of O'Reilly.

He's rarely outside of his character in the public eye.

From everything I've read, he's a really nice guy.

First of all. Colbert isn't on the Daily Show. That's John Stewart and Stewart isn't leaving.

Secondly, if they don't give John Oliver his own show in the same way they gave Stephen Colbert one, it would be a major travesty.

John Oliver just signed with HBO.

I am sure CC is realllly mad they lost him, but it made sense at the time.

Yeah, but this Colbert transition is a year away.

Oliver's HBO show is only once a week. Comedy Central has more on the line to replace Colbert and I'm sure they can throw more money at him.

Good point.

As I said above, my concern with this is that they would essentially have two Daily Show's on back-to-back. Colbert's show was similar in terms of concept and Stewart's influence, but it was a completely different show because it was delivered by a satirical character as opposed to a "straight man."

I see why you call Fallon "likeable" but that isn't what makes a good late night host. His voice has zero gravitas. It has no presence, no authority. One of his major flaws, aside from the lack of wit, is that his voice commands no attention. He is the guy who gets talked over when you are having a few drinks with your guys... and he hosts The Tonight Show. Frankly, I find every sentence of his excruciating to listen to. GET IT OUT LIKE A BIG BOY, MAN! Pretty sure he was picked to appeal to the younger crowd. Didn't work for me, I'm 22.

Don't care what you say about Fallon but he was just what the Tonight Show needed. Back to the Late Show, I thought Neil Patrick Harris would have been an interesting selection by CBS.

Funny guy, think Tosh would be the better choice. That said I don't know why anyone cares about these late night talk shows. BTW Letterman was rarely funny, even in the early days.
