Place to have a Trailer Hitch Put On?
I put my own hitch on my car (from etrailer.com, highly recommend, BTW) but the woman doesn't have one and we're going out of town for a few days - I don't think I could get the new one shipped before we leave.
Anyone have recommendations for a place to put a trailer hitch on an SUV?
U-Haul wants over $500

What? They put one on my Subaru last summer for $150. You may try going through U-Haul's website to make sure the person you talked to actually understood what you wanted. Otherwise, that is a lot of inflation...

BMW X5
I asked a BMW dealership about a hitch for my parent's X3. It was about $1,000 installed and programmed.
BMW makes a "BMW-brand" hitch and they're quite popular. I'd go with the Bimmer version because that includes the computer programming to handle towing. Until 2014, all X5's were all-time all-wheel drive, and you can do some damage towing without it reprogrammed. The dealer option also gets you warranty protection and uhaul wouldn't have the programming ability. German cars are quirky and I'd advise caution.

Yes, her car is definitely quirky. That's great info, thanks.

I was ready to jump in and say U-Haul, they did both of my Explorers for about $200 each. But then I saw BMW and all bets are off.
Nice to see that most of the newer SUVs have integrated hitches built in. I'm in the market for a new one and that's a big deal.

If you have a BMW, I wouldn't recommend taking anywhere but an authorized dealer.
You invested a lot of $$ in the ride, might as well make sure it stays ok and up to warranty specs.

You have a BMW and you're looking for a cheap trailer hitch?
Be glad you're not me. I have a VW and I look for cheap gas.

Your woman......your car........your money.

Right. I have an old Explorer, 250,000 miles and everything works, like a top. I could get it worked on in Delight Arkansas if I needed to.
My wife has a Jaguar, about 8 years old very low mileage and it's like an inbred cocker spaniel, always some little glitch. You have to be careful who works on it and keep the records with you at all times.

My best bud from college had top end 5 series. He traded it in because he lived in small town MS and was tired of driving back and forth to Jackson just to get it serviced.
Nice cars, but to me def. not worth the hassle. Especially when stuff does break.
