We return our top three scorers. And the team is in no way complete yet. I don't see how it can be labeled a rebuilding year when we don't even know the full roster.

I agree, it's hard to label his year without knowing the full roster...

But being the sports fan you are you know there is merit to the idea of cohesiveness on any athletic team.... This will essentially be an entirely new squad we see next year. The question marks will worry anybody at this point.

does anyone know the specifics of his problems with Murphy? i wonder if that's true for most players, or if Combs was the only one with a problem with coach.

It must have not been good the parting shot at Ypsi and the campus was a cheap one in my opinion-there's a lot of anger coming out.

EMU Hoops Combs leaving program
Maybe if Combs were starting and not in a back-up role his feelings about Murphy and Ypsi would be different.

That's my read on it Wooden. Of course all of those that wish to (ie see WMU board) are going to jump on the lets torch EMU. Its not been a great pr year with the Reed incident, 300 for a tournament game, English making ESPN and now this.

I'm kinda tired of seeing EMU being made the MAC punching bag.

Oh definitely, and we are going to have lots of new faces again, but luckily they'll mostly be depth. Our starting 5 has played/practiced with each other for at least a year. They should be one of the better sets of starters in the conference. Depth, on the other hand...well, we'll have to wait and see.

Not an all inclusive list but some MI high school guards still out there are Clyburn, Mike Laster, Leonard Harper-Baker and Justice Green just to mention a few.

Probably because Murphy wanted him to play defense.

That being said, I've long thought Murphy stifles his players offensively. This only confirms it.

RE: EMU Hoops Combs leaving program
Dear holybovine,
I would have to disagree with you on Coach Murphy stifling his players offensively. There were many on this board during games this year that complained that Combs took too many three point shots in some games, and in others that complained of him driving to the basket when there was no chance of him making the shot. Now, he may have been trying to draw a foul, but that didn't happen much either. So, I don't think he, or any one else was denied their shots during games this past season.
I would agree that Murphy wants his team to play defense, and that's where there may have been a fly in the eye to Combs, because he may not have wanted to play that much defense.

That was a low blow. Regardless of how true it may or may not actually be, that was a pretty public ridicule. He is young though...

After sitting on this for a day, good riddance. Yes it hurts, but backup guards can be a dime a dozen... Was he solid off the bench ? Yes. Is he irreplaceable ? Not in the least bit.

The parting shots were uncalled for. Good luck to him, but I'm not going to miss the kid.

You'll be better off with players that want to be there, IMO.

Amen to that this team won 22 games this season against a top notch non conference schedule and isn't getting the type of respect it deserves by its own students, other MAC teams, its own players and recruits apparently.

RE: EMU Hoops Combs leaving program
It's just one player, right? A few years ago NIU lost Toler, our leading scorer (don't remember if he left or got kicked off team) who didn't seem to want to deal with what our coach was teaching. Then, before last year we lost Nader, our leading scorer, as he transferred. He also seemed like a bad apple. It happens. This year we finally had more cohesion and it showed, though we still have a ways to go.

EMU's problem might be the slow offense. Fans want to see more excitement like run 'n gun. Just guessing though.

Jalen Ross, a backup PG also transferred out of the program a week or two ago.

This is just for fun. Could it happen ? Possibly, but not probable.

I for one would love to see a player like Horford come on board for one year. That would immediately solve our front court issues at this point and still leave us room to take another freshman big.

Toledo and NIU have both taken 5th year Michigan players in the past two or three seasons (Anthony Wright to Toledo and Blake McLimans to Miami OH)

Ok, well at least they're still backups. They may just be looking to start somewhere. For a guy that knew Reed, it's probably hard to look at the safety issue with a big picture perspective.
