That giant clip is freaking awesome. I feel like the first two episodes have been just ok. My expectations were probably too high.

Not to derail, but does anyone watch Silicon Valley? It's probably my favorite sitcom right now.

Silicon Valley is great. Couldn't believe it when they walked in on those horses.

Hard to imagine how the season finale could top last week. I usually get annoyed by long drawn out fight scenes, but the Battle of the Bastards should win some kind of award. I don't know when I've ever felt that tense watching TV/movies. Mostly due to the fact that in GOT a main character could actually die.

Ramsey getting his face chewed off by his own hounds was perfect.

Best realistic, visceral battle sequence I've seen...ever. Probably my favorite episode of television that I've ever seen as well.

It wont, Episode 10 normally doesn't do anything to beat the bigger episode before it, it's more of a setup for the next season. I think we'll see Bran heading south of the Wall or to the North Grove, Jon and Sansa will have to deal with the realization that Davos made about Shireen, Cersei's storyline will see an explosive conclusion, and Denaerys will finally board her ships. Hopefully no wasted time on Sam and Gilly, even though there are some very important revelations that come from The Citadel, that's something that should be left for the early part of next season.

RE: Game of Thrones is back
No, it's really good.

The hardest part is narrowing my list of favorite characters. Tyrion, Jon Snow, Eddard, Arya, The Hound, Varys, Bronn, Lady Mormont...on it goes.

I don't read the books, but is it true that the show is basically ahead of almost everything now?

How long until Jaime dies? He's on a path toward redemption, which is a bad sign for his life expectancy.

I'm quite proud of myself for correctly predicting the mother of Jon Snow's identity very early in the series.

As far as the books go we are either past the books or the story has been changed enough that if we're not past the books it doesn't matter (and we're mostly past the books). In fact, I bet we are mostly past even the next unpublished book.

Nice work on Jon's mom... it seems so obvious when you hear the theory and I always thought there was more to it, but never really connected the dots until someone mentioned it as a possibility to me some time after reading the first three books a few years before the show came out.

I think Jamie is my favorite character but there are so many good ones it's a tough choice.

Cool. I wonder how much influence GRRM has on things now in that case? I see that S7 will mostly be based on an outline of the next two books after looking around for a little bit. Wonder if S8 will also be that or if they'll go even further?

I've warmed to Jaime over time. My expectation for awhile has been that he'll be the one to kill Cersei.

RE: Game of Thrones is back
For the show watchers that haven't read the books (like me), HBO put together a history of westeros series that's pretty darn cool in my book. This video compiles all of them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPI_xA1SoRg The history passages are narrated by the actors from the show. Covers a lot of stuff that's referenced or hinted at in the show but not covered in any great detail. Long listen (about an hour) but worth it IMHO.

Bump.

Anyone else excited for the show to return in April? I am on book 4 of the series with a goal to finish all 5 before the show returns but I am not sure that is going to happen.

Seems like a reasonable goal. The good news at this point is its really not necessary since we're well past the books.

I'm stoked. Comes back on my birthday. I remember before the show came out, telling everyone I knew to watch it based on my love for the books and hoping it lasted. Never imagined the phenomenon it would become. It's success has also opened the door for other genre shows. Really good shows like The Expanse, the Magicians and American Gods have been the beneficiaries. There are plenty of others on the horizon.

Agreed! At this point, it is all new stuff and some stuff has veered off the books already. I'm curious if Martin ever finishes the next book how much for the show, if any, makes it to the new book. Wonder if the writers are working off a rough draft of the book for some ideas, etc.

Yeah I know they are farther ahead in the show than the books. There is just so much more content in the books.

The wife and I finished our rewatch of the entire series to date over the Christmas holiday.

In the process of re-watching to get back up. Right on pace to be done just before the premiere.

Doing the same. Slightly behind. The neat thing about rewatching the show is that you pick up all kinds of references and foreshadowing. Can't wait.
