I'll just put this Tulane gem in smack talk
Apparently a lotta butt hurt today from the spankin' the Cajuns gave the Wave last night. Saw this gem on the yeoldsoreloser forum:
Watching that game last night, it was obvious as it could get, that ULL was using different bats as there’s had crazy pop in them. Two other people told me same thing. They had a guy check swing on a pitch out of the zone, that was 5’8” 150 lbs and it was a double, while our guys check swing and it doesn’t past the mound. They had 4 HRs in one game! That’s 33% of LSUs total in 27 games. ULL has 38 HRs this year, and they lead the nation as they did last year. The highest team in the SEC has 21 HRs, while LSU has 12. ULL doesn’t get anyone they want on the recruiting trail, they don’t out recruit Tulane, and they definitely don’t out recruit LSU and there team is not littered with blue chips. LSU, Vanderbilt, Florida, South Car., all of those teams get any player they want, they get the best of the best, and your trying to tell me that ULL has twice as many HRs and 3-4 times more than LSU and other SEC schools the last two years in a row!? I don’t buy it.
Our 3B had offers to go to UF, FSU, Miami and anywhere in Florida and he came to Tulane, our SS was the #2 SS in the country, he’s a pro prospect, our C was the #1 C in Texas could’ve went anywhere including pro, Kaplan was the Missouri player of the year, could’ve went anywhere, Grant Brown came to Tulane over runner up in CWS last year………...and ULL, UNO, Sacred Heart etc. doesn’t have anyone on their team with any of those type of offers our kids on our Tulane team had as our kids/freshmen are Blue chip recruits….yet they come to Tulane and they are hovering the Mendoza line in batting AVG. and can’t get it out of the IF. Tyler Wilson was a top Juco hitter in the country last year, so was Gandolfo…they are hitting in the .100s and cant crack the lineup.
I really think it’s our Rawlings bats and the bats our players are forced to use…they are terrible and have no pop and if it was me as the coach I would change immediately and try other companies yesterday. Yet our coaches are probably saying it’s gotta be swing mechanics so they are probably trying to tweak everything these players do that they’ve been working on their entire lives perfecting, when in reality it’s not the swing mechanics it’s our terrible bats we make them use and have the last few years. Obviously there’s only a couple of handful of teams that roll and shave bats, and they are very easy to spot, and there are few teams that are rumored to always do this, one of them that I’m thinking of is in the SEC….but the point is, these new BBCOR bats vary from company to company drastically, and its well documented. Some have larger sweet spots than others…etc
Last night, Rogers and Hope absolutely crushed a ball and it died at the 360-380 mark and was caught…….while ULL had a player in the 6th inning reach for a ball on the outside part of the plate, pull the ball and carthon caught it on the warning track…..which should’ve been an IF pop up. There was also another play, where ULL player hit a line drive right at Carthon, and he miss read the ball by 30ft and it sailed way over his head and one hopped the fence….he’s been catching and reading fly balls all year and he estimated that ball to land 30-50 Ft. short of where it did? He’s a D1 OF, and that just doesn’t happen. Our team needs to change bat companies yesterday and needs to be able to use multiple brands and not have to only use these Rawlings bats with no pop. Some of our HS freshmen had 10 hrs in HS and summer league, yet they can’t get any out of the park for us…they use BBCOR in HS and wooden bats in the summer and it’s not like they got any weaker….we would do better with wood bats imo than what we are currently using.
So, it's all about the bats. Nothing to do with Cajun pitching, base running, defense, etc.
Didn't Tulane notice that we switched balls on 'em when they came up to bat? We're using those new no hit balls with the rotating center, but just to keep 'em off balance, we threw a few normal balls so they could get 3 hits and think all was normal.
