RE: NBR: Eagles release WR DeSean Jackson
Copped fron the same discussion on another board:

"They'll save maybe $4 million in cap money. The Eagles already had about $16 million in cap space and most of the worthwhile free agents are already gone.

They need players more than they need cap room.

They didn't cut him because of his salary.

They cut him because of some combination of:
1. He is perceived to be a bad influence in the locker room.
2. He is a diva.
3. The Eagles management doesn't like his off-field activities.
4. The Eagles management is afraid of what could come out about Jackson.
5. He doesn't fit Chip's system/philosophy.
6. The return of Maclin and acquisition of Sproles make him less essential to the team's success.
7. He sucks in the red zone.
8. He doesn't always play hard.
9. There are a ton of talented receivers in the draft.
10. He wanted a new contract 2 days after the season ended.
11. He was viewed as having reached his peak."

RE: NBR: Eagles release WR DeSean Jackson
I agree with most of that, except he doesn't fit Chip's system. He had 1300 yards in that system he doesn't fit in, kind of hard to buy that.

And for the record I wasn't accusing Jackson of anything other than being associated with gang members. There is nothing that would even indicate he has committed a crime or anything, but if I owned a company and found out one of my employees was hanging out with gang members, I'd probably cut ties too.

In my opinion, Jackson didn't do much wrong, and the Eagles didn't either. Jackson has a right to demand a new contract every other year, and the Eagles have a right to tell him to piss off. He also has a right to hang out with whoever he wants to, but the Eagles have a right to not have their star players associated with certain people.

BS? A cop came out and said he had ties to an accused murderer. That wasn't the Eagles. None of us know Jackson personally, or who he really is, but there is enough evidence out there at this point to prove that he, at minimum, has some association with gang members.

Do you know how many players would be cut because of an association with gang members? Its not like Jackson was participating in gang activities. Truth is, if you're from the inner-city you're going to have an association with some type of gang members, notice I said association.

He hasn't been charged with anything, has he? That only applies in a court of law.

That's the thing with Jackson though, it isn't just one thing. It's the gang association. It's the weird robbery at his house. It's the demands for a new contract every year. It's the poor attitude. And on and on.

Jackson is a hell of a WR, but like many of them before him, he is a pain in his team's ass at times.

Well, I was going to go there but I didn't want to go there. Reminds me of the "thug" label thrown at Richard Sherman, who is anything but.

Richard Sherman and Desean Jackson are not even close to the same person in my opinion. I actually felt really bad for Sherman because he has so many things going for him, and so many people judged him off of something after he had a microphone thrown in his face minutes after he made the biggest play of his life.

I'm pretty indifferent on what's happened to Jackson, but I feel like he brought this on himself in many ways. My feelings certainly have nothing to do with the color of his skin though.

And this is what the Philly media believes as well. As was pointed out before, Jackson does a lot of community service work and for God's sake even has a foundation in his name. But this isn't even being talk about but yet we can focus on accusations that the man is associated with a gang because he knows gang signs? Hell, I know how to "Crip Walk" so does this mean I am a member of the Crips Gang in L.A.??? Just sayin'.....

Al Capone gave generously to charity. Good people are not always good. Bad people are not always bad.

Having been at Oregon, I'm sure Chip Kelley had his share of kids with gang affiliations. So I don't buy this being the issue, unless Jackson refused to move away from them.

Sounds to me like Jackson was a bit of a head case, and the Eagles didn't want the headache anymore, regardless of his talent.

To some people they need to know if you're black or not to answer that.

Then why not just say so instead of poisoning him for other teams?

I "crip walk" too, but that's usually when I first get up in the morning and have to work out the joint stiffness in my left knee for about 15 minutes...

Imagine that this is a web "opinion" board, and stuff like this is a very common subject about which folks share their impressions. Who really cares? DeSean Jackson and The Philadelphia Eagles...

Maybe Jackson said something to Kelley or Eagles Management worthy of a retaliatory poke in the eye?

Chip Kelly and Jackson have been banging heads since Kelly arrived in Philly. The NFL Network killed the "he was a cancer in the locker room" bs this morning. Jackson's birthday parties were a HUGE even and deal for his Eagle teammates and the ones interviewed said that they hated to see him go.
