Jim Rogers keeps trying to talk me into moving to Singapore, but I keep telling him that I'm not going anywhere with worse summers than Houston.

Worse summers, but a better baseball team.

Ouch. Just ******* ouch!

RE: Question
I'm not big on expecting unearned wealth, but I'd probably take it and run, but not without knowing tax implications here and abroad, which would probably cut a big chunk out of it.

You beat me to it. I'd come back with more rights than when I left. And I'd pay no taxes and could still vote.

RE: Question
A question of my own:

If you had the $10 million to establish a business outside the country, where would you pick?

Sure...The "cant come back" clause would be the problem for me. I don't see anywhere else with as many nice spots as America has. We have to admit that despite our problems?...we have it pretty damn good in comparison to the rest of the world. Sadly...We are doing everything we can to destroy ourselves from the inside.

RE: Question
Probably not. You cannot put a price tag on some of the places that will forever be a part of who you are. Never being able to see those places again would not be something I could live with.

That last part is what concerns me. If we don't succeed in destroying ourselves from inside in my lifetime, then I see no reason to leave unless there's something like $10 million in it for me.

But if it starts looking like that destruction is going to come sooner, then I will head for the exits. I'm not into going down with sinking ships. I'll roll the dice if I'm staring that in the face, but I think there are places where it would be a relatively low risk dice roll. Had Obama kept democratic supermajorities in both houses of congress long enough to get more of his plans implemented, then I would almost certainly be gone by now.

For those who have given me grief about what happened to the plans to leave that I had expressed earlier, the answer is simple--the 2010 elections.

Yes, and I would live in Hawai'i.

...wait, is that part of the U.S.?

Seriously. No. There's only two more years of Obama rule and that's good enough for me. Unless he changes the rules and becomes a king. Then, oh nooooooooo, I'm in trouble.

But if somebody just showed up unannounced with the cash and said "Now or never" then no. There's just too much other stuff to be worked out and seven days isn't enough time.

Yep, that 7-days clause would be tough to manage. And never visiting again would take some getting used to.

Besides those concerns, I could settle somewhere in southern Ontario, maybe near Toronto or Niagara. About a 3-hour drive for most of my family and close friends to come and visit.
