Conn. officials tell gun owners to relinquish or destroy banned assault weapons

Nazisk

Quote:HARTFORD, CONN. – Connecticut officials are urging owners of now-illegal assault weapons and large capacity ammunition magazines to relinquish them to the police or make them permanently inoperable.

The Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection announced Friday it had sent a letter to owners who had failed to register the items by a Jan. 1 deadline, part of last year's gun control law. Officials offered advice on what to do now with the weapons and magazines.

The letter says gun owners are in compliance with the new state law if their items are no longer in Connecticut or were sold to an authorized gun dealer.

Those who fail to comply face charges of possessing an unregistered assault weapon and/or high capacity magazine.

Commissioner Dora Schriro denied rumors DESPP is confiscating weapons.

The United States has an expansive law called the Second Amendment that says we all have the right as granted by God or whatever creator you believe in to keep and bear arms.

RE: Conn. officials tell gun owners to relinquish or destroy banned assault weapons
Gun control measures met with defiance from law enforcement officers

Quote:The head of a nationwide sheriffs coalition is calling on Vermont's law enforcement officers to defy three controversial gun control measures passed by Burlington voters three weeks ago.

"Sheriffs have a constitutional duty to refuse to comply with such ordinances," said Richard Mack, president of the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association. "We're seeing sheriffs in New York oppose the Safe Act and Gov. Cuomo. If we have sheriffs in New York doing this, how much more should we have sheriffs doing it in Vermont?"

On March 4, Burlington voters joined a push by elected officials throughout northeastern states to enact stiffer gun control measures. By a 2-to-1 margin, they banned the carry of firearms in bars and restaurants, authorized police to confiscate guns during domestic disputes and required gun owners to keep firearms locked up at home.

"It's astonishing that people are so cavalier about violating the Second Amendment," Mack said. "Burlington City Council sounds like they are just following the trend to do things that are entirely unconstitutional and go around sheriffs, and go around the laws, or subvert the laws, or disobey the laws."

You know, of course, that bazookas are illegal, and nothing the SCOTUS has said or done, officially or not, has changed the “prudent restriction” we put on these sorts of things. Yet you post anyways.......

If only the SCOTUS would put “prudent restrictions” on stupid-ass liberal red herring arguments.

Probably, but they're not big on the 2nd Amendment, either.

Buy a class III license, and the bazooka is perfectly legal. I wouldn't trade my bazooka for anything, except maybe Obama's imprisonment.

Your precious gun "control" measures are dropping rapidly, you'd be well advised to get on the winning side now. When a liberal cesspool like Hawai'i gets their gun "control" declared unconstitutional, you know you're fighting a losing battle.

That depends on how many bazookas you want - a single $200 stamp per bazooka.

You can get a stamp for sawed-off shotguns for $5 though if your funds are tight.

Kid, you play Monopoly, but I play chess. So if I can't interpret what point you are trying to make, then you have failed to make your point.

Answer me this: if I put a bazooka or an assault rifle in your hands, showed you how to use it and told you to hang onto it for an hour, do you think you could restrain yourself from shooting it at something?

Work for the police. The background checks aren't too stringent. They'll give you one for free. Including ammo. And train you to use it. And if you really hate somebody, have a friend phone in an anonymous tip that they're a drug dealer. When you no knock raid their house, just say it looked like he was holding a weapon when you fire away. You'll of course be roundly punished for murdering neutralizing your enemy with a few weeks of paid leave and a few weeks of paid desk duty before returning to your normal patrol.
