I was a bit surprised as well. Southeastern was 3rd, can't remember beyond that, sorry.

I think southeastern gets a surprising number from closer to br who want a smaller school than lsu. Southeastern also draws well from washington parrish and some of the sw mississippi area.

I was shocked at the amount of growth there over the last few years.

Most of the Southeastern students from the Baton Rouge area go to Southeastern because they did not have the grades, nor the ACT score that is necessary to qualify to attend LSU or any of the other universities in the surrounding area that have selective admissions. The enrollment at Southeastern has grown dramatically since those selective admissions were adopted.

I think USM is underserved in the LA media market considering how many folks have ties in the area. I realize they're not going to beat out UA/AU/LSU, but they could/should do better PR wise IMO. USA has finally kicked up visibility a notch which was long time coming...again my opinion only.

You disagree? UNO is like 80% of what it was at its peak, in every quantifiable way. Tulane has ditched many of its engineering programs, and killed Newcomb College. Bobby Jindal has said (erroneously) that we need fewer college grads, and the state budget reflects that. The outflow of students from Mandeville, Covington, Slidell, Chalmette, etc. to USM is a direct result. I'm notpointing fingers at Tulane. I'm saying that if SLU and UNO were adequate, USM would have zero foothold in NOLA, and that's just not the case.

A city of New Orleans size has Holy Cross, Tulane, Delgado, xavier, Loyola, UNO, SOUTHERN, Dillard. Community Colleges, trade schools, top 50 institution, theology programs, major research centers, medlawpharm programs and within an hour vet and primate. To say new orleans has poor education access post high school is beyond laughable.

Do some of the institutions have problems? Duh. Name me one city that doesnt have similar problems with that diversity.

Do some of the institutions have problems? Duh. Name me one city that doesnt have similar problems with that diversity.

Look at your list: 3 HBCUs, a JUCO, a private school that doesn't recruit locally, a tiny religious school in a remote area, and a single public, racially integrated U with perhaps 10,000 students and few options at the doctoral level. And you mentioned Loyola... I'm not sure how to categorize them, but they fill a niche at best. It's really not much of a group. UNO should be more comparable to USM or ULL, but they're not because of lack of funds.

Bobby Jindal has said that LA has enough college grads for the jobs that are available, but I think this is one of those "if you build it they will come" dilemmas. No business that involves any kind of knowledge work is going to locate here because UNO isn't what it needs to be for that to happen. It's hardly even worth arguing about: New Orleans needs more higher education options and until it gets them USM will continue filling the void. I'm sorry that makes your little private club upset. You kicked us out of your athketic conference though so I guess everything is all better now. You don't need to burn down our campus like St. Paul's did to Covington High when CHS won too many football games.

I wasn't gonna say it quite that way lol. But what are lsu's requirement's now? Ive heard 23 was their minimum now?

RE: Southern Miss has no market???!!!
I actually like both USM & UAB.
They're just not very attractive

The AAC wants big market big branding and opportunity, I guess its hard for them to see this with USM. Tulane has done a lot to get the move. Building a new stadium, committing to play "big" basketball games at the new orleans arena. And I'm sure them being a privet helped also.

I don't know though, I always questioned them.
But I also questioned SMU but look at what they've done with basketball..
Houston football and new arena..
ECU's outstanding football attendance and over all brand..
Tulsa has always been a good program just need to get it together..
UCF was gold, winning a BCS bowl the first year..
Memphis basketball..

Seems like they picked wisely so I guess we will just have to wait and see what Tulane can do.

Here's the thing though, CUSA is now so watered down that its not attractive and no team is going to stand out, unless they dominate.
I mean no trolling but who's going to want a team from CUSA if they can't even compete in CUSA.

First team to do so will be on their way out, if no one can it'll stay put.
Thats if they big 12 doesn't raid the AAC.

Conference is still very entertaining, best of luck.

I feel ya, cuz.

I live in NORTHERN Louisiana, where our ancestry is predominately Scottish and Irish (not Cajun), and deep "Southern" in the Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia sense...not the "we's-kicked-out-of-Canada-and-stayed-in-the-first-place-that-would-take-us" sense.

Yet, I watch our rednecks attempt to spell "Go" incorrectly, and run around "bleeding" purple and urine colors...forgetting the fact that A) They never set foot in a classroom down there, B) have heard of Baton Rouge cause that's where the Gov'na lives, but couldn't find it on a map since it's 200 miles from Bernice, C) and after all...Ellis-shoe's the "state" school (...whatever that means).

When asked about it, they throw up that "Louisiana Pride" thing, but if you ask, "well, that's fine, but where's that Louisiana Pride showing up at The Joe or The TAC 30 minutes down the road?" You get a smirk or a blank stare.

Yeah, it's sickening for sure.
