Importance of a UConn loss today to the AAC
Uconn(and its fans) are going through a HUGE transition. One from being at the big boy table, to being pejoratively called by some as being "lumped in" with the rest of mid majors.
No other school has had to face such a transition. So the oss that they will have today can be much bigger in the grand scheme of things than just a normal first round loss. Most in the country are ready to say that with Calhoun gone, the state of the football program that they are just another Umass or URI.
A big run in the NCAA tournament might have changed some of those perceptions, but going forward the loss really makes it harder to make the claim that they aren't outside of the major schools. More like a DePaul, San Francisco, than a contemporary blue blood.
The question becomes, what can they do to change this perception? They really have an us against them attitude, with swofford, bc, Boeheim, ESPN, reporters, magazines all wishing for their failure, sometimes openly and quite hostilely.
For the AAC, a weakened Uconn doesn't portend AAC strength.

UConn just won a National Title 3 years ago. They are and will continue to be one of the top basketball schools of all time.
