Garner up with a runner on first. One out. Ditman has the game on the line.

Ditty is money.

Never in doubt.

Tomorrow brings the second half of the Mc starting pitchers.

Ditman does the job with a fly out a grounder to the pitcher. Rice wins 2-1. They go for the sweep tomorrow. Another tight game.

The Tulane announcer is chattering away like a fan in the stands.

One more out, Owls!!

ETA: The video feed seems to be lagging significantly. Now I see the end of the game.

What wonderful years they're both having... a real testament to the coaching.

I missed the game, having been at the library all afternoon, but . . .

We had at least two Cajun Injector parties at our O/C house during undergrad in the early '90s (one of my housemates really liked cooking turkeys). At one, for some reason we had way too much beer for the number of people so we had to call a locked door until it was finished off. I've subsequently done one myself.

DiMiggio actually played on my team in the local adult baseball league the last 2 summers. Great defender and can hit well in our league, but a little overmatched at D-1. My ultimate win-win was when he hit the double late Friday night but the baserunner was thrown out at home. He's a good kid and it's great to see him getting a chance since he is a walk-on.

As for the game, one of the quickest games I have seen live, particularly thru the first 7 innings or so. Very well pitched by both teams. Some seriously close plays at first that had the Tulane fans angry, made me glad I wasn't and umpire having to make those calls!

Go Rice!

Yeah, but he and LeBlanc had virtually identical stats. LeBlanc more of a strikeout pitcher, but both with exceptional control. I'm surprised we struck out so frequently against Mapes.

Not a very good offensive game, to say the least. Thankfully, we got the pitching and defense. Blake Fox now a perfect 8-0 on the season, and 14-0 for his career. Ditman with Save #6. Connor Teykl stays hot at the plate, but Warren, Cook and Stainback are struggling big time.

Need the sweep to offset the past two lost weekend series. Need McDowell to go deep, and Trevor Teykl to continue his excellent pitching of late...and, most important, we need the offense to show up. We'll likely be facing one of three pitchers with sub-par across-the-board stats against a weak schedule-- either true Freshman RHP JP France, So LHP Emerson Gibbs or RS So RHP Alex Massey. Time to go for the kill-- early and often. Go Owls!

I am looking forward to seeing what McDowell has going tomorrow. I am not worried about style points, I just want wins. I love the fact that this team has trained us to expect the best no matter who is wearing the Rice uniform. By my count Rice is missing the original Friday night starter, the replacement Friday night starter/all American closer, the starting shortstop, and a reliever that has not given up an earned run in 2014. Of yeah, the catcher is so banged up he could star on an episode of House. Just get me one more win this weekend. I pretty much don't care how.

Lots of pressure on Tulane. Their coach is out for the year. The interim coach is auditioning for the full-time gig and hasn't gotten much out of a very media hyped freshman recruiting class. They are desperately trying to avoid a sweep. The natives are few and restless.

Rice needs a business-like enjoyable Sunday. I believe the phrase of the day is "Let's go to work." If Rice wins tomorrow and gets the sweep, I'll start buying into the swagger.

Oh yeah, since J Willy's CD dropped, Rice is unbeaten...

Buy J Willy's CD.

Thanks 13TH. Williamson was already one of my favorites before learning of his other passion. Very cool.

UH lost another tight one to Louisville tonight at home 3-2. The Coogs are now 4-4 in their conference and really need to get some wins to hang on to any national seed aspirations.

RE: Rice@Tulane (Saturday Game 2)
Wow, what an ending to the Louisville - Houston game. Louisville took a 3-2 lead to the bottom of the 9th, and did absolutely everything it could to give the game away/...

4-pitch walk to the leadoff batter...then wild pitch moves him to 2B with no outs.

Next batter struck out swinging, but reached 1B on wild pitch, with leadoff man advancing to 3B. No out.

Next batter gets ahead 2-0 in the count, then flies out to LF, but the Coogs elect to hold the runner. 1st and 3rd, one out.

Next batter tries a first pitch safety squeeze, but its bunted too hard to send the runner in from 3B....BUT pitcher bobbles the ball for an E-1. Bases loaded, one out...and the Coogs have yet to get a hit in the inning.

Next batter hits a line shot up the middle, but it's stabbed by the SS and turned into an inning-ending, game-ending doubleplay (doubling up the runner caught off the bag at 2B).

Ouch. Now that's luck on Louisvilles' part-- one heck of a Houdini act. Hard to believe their closer actually gets credit for a "save" on that one.

I wouldn't go that far. They've lost two very close games to #10 Louisville, and their still Top 5 in RPI, and an exceptional 18-6 vs. Top 100. Having said that, they are one of the least road-tested teams in the country, and will continue to be so heading into the post-season.

Inspiring to be be sure. It is too bad that I won't be able to see the Owls play in New Orleans for the near future.

RE: Rice@Tulane (Saturday Game 2)
Tulane has announced they're starting RS So RHP Kevin Massey today...

9 app, 3 starts, 19.2 IP, 7.32 ERA, .330 BAA, 29 hits, 11 BBs, 25 Ks

...he's obviously struggled big time so far this year, and though he has swing and miss stuff, he has been extremely hittable. Offense needs to break out today, and get to this guy early and often.

Given how little Tulane has used their bullpen this weekend, I would expect to see them go with "all staff" in an effort to steal a win today...

K.McKenzie (RS Sr, RHP): 8 app, 3-0, 3 saves, 27.2 IP, 21 hits (only 1 xtrabases), 1.30 ERA, .210 BAA, 9 BBs, 35 Ks
Z.Flowers (Fr, RHP): 7 app, 1 start, 0-2, 14.0 IP, 19 hits, 2.57 ERA, .339 BAA, 4 BBs, 7 Ks
JP France (Fr, RHP): 10 app, 4 starts, 2-2, 30.0 IP, 31 hits, 5.10 ERA, .274 BAA, 6 BBs, 30 Ks
E.Gibbs (So, LHP): 10 app, 2 starts, 1-2, 1 save, 30.2 IP, 45 hits, 6.46 ERA, .354 BAA, 11 BBs, 18 Ks
