Did I misread the second word in your original post? This isn't a "dog," it is a pitbull. The article references "pit bull" numerous times. The reason it is news is because the dog has been labeled a "pit bull." And, like German Sheps and Rotties in the 70s and 80s (plus sheepdogs after "Cujo") came out, pit bulls are the dangerous dog du jour.
You should give a crap. You should give a crap about the kid and the a-hole adults who created this situation. Giving a crap about those people is the only way to prevent situations like this happening in the future.
I said pit bull but then I referred to it as a dog multiple times. You read that into my statement.
Like I said, I am not real interested in the dog, or type of dog, but mostly in the fact that people seem to show a lot of compassion for the dog and seem to forget the damage it did. That strikes me as excuse making. A dog that is dangerous, even within its own chain circle, is dangerous period. A dangerous dog that does this sort of thing is far from "innocent," as described by some of those whack jobs supporting the dog.

Exactly. What happens if it ever gets off of it's chain...

Some have even gone so far as to call the dog "innocent." WTF?
Those people are me sick quite honestly.
I agree with you. These animals are vicious and should not be allowed to be owned by the general public.

RE: A Pitbull or a Kid?
About two months ago, my wife and I were driving down a fairly busy 2 lane highway, when we noticed all of the cars in front of us slamming on brakes and swerving off the road. In the oncoming lane were 2 dogs, both resembling pit bulls but I can not verify the breed for sure. They were running with traffic and as cars slowed down to avoid them, they would jump at the cars. We got by without incident, but I was definitely worried what they would do if they came in contact with a biker or pedestrian.
Just my story.

I love how you covered your ass from the pitbull lovers right there...
But that's a crazy story, glad yall were ok. The ONLY time I could ever harm an animal is if someone was in danger or if a dog chases my truck. Nothing pisses me off more than a dumb*** dog running out to my full size pickup truck and trying to either chase it or bite the wheels. I refuse to brake or swerve. But don't get that confused with a dog that's in the street minding it's own business, I'll brake for them.

I didn't want to be classified as a pitbull bigot. Anyway, the dogs just looked crazy, and were acting pissed off and needed to be put down. It would not have hurt my feelings to see one of the vehicles just flatten the two dogs.

I had a two door Tahoe once, and I'd cut the mufflers off of it for deeply loud noise... There was a dog that came running after me and I put a nice loud romp out and I swear to you it tucked it's tail and ran away... The owner was outside and I can remember him giving me a dirty go to hell look haha... But it solved the problem...

Well it's true. We don't allow the general public own bears or tigers do we? Why not? Because those animals are potentially dangerous to humans. Why should it be any different with pit bulls?

RE: A Pitbull or a Kid?
In Denver, pitbulls are outlawed and the reason is the owners. There was a rash of pitbull attacks on people, including children about 5-6 years ago or so. Since you can't round up all the owners and make them more responsible, the reaction from the city was, if you own one, either give it up to somebody out of the city or move.
Not sure I agreed with this measure but I don't have a better solution.

A dog like that, which has attacked a child will do it again if it thinks its territory is threatened. No value in keeping it alive but it does but everyone that comes in contact with it at risk. If the dog isn't put down the person that takes it should have to face being put down with the dog if it does it again.

This breed of animal is very popular in ELP. Because there is a lot of drugs in this city, it is a popular drug dog. Consequently, there are a lot of breeders in town and these dogs are everywhere.
I'm guessing that at least 5 to 10 people have been mauled by these animals in the last 3 years. Mostly children or elderly people.
I can't stand them and have seriously considered killing them when I find them in my neighborhood.

Yep, but I finally sold it for a grand. It got to where it wouldn't start on a humid day... Someone said it's because it came from the dry air down in Arizona to the humidity up here, but I tried replacing lots of stuff, never helped. I should have kept it for off road driving since I bought a 2WD but oh well... I miss the fuucker sometimes. I could have ran speakers into the center and worked the doors to where I could take them off at my own leisure...

Oh, and before I even had those aggressive treads on there, I had 2 different A/Ts and 2 different O/Rs and pulled my dad's 2500 HD Sierra out of the mud.......while he was hooked up to his 30' gooseneck trailer...
