I hope he has a better career than Whitaker, sure. But Whitaker looked really good when he first arrived at UAB. Anybody that was at preseason practice and pickup games when he first arrived could tell you that.

Nah. Whitaker's highlight reels made you say, "Yeah, I can see some potential," but it wasn't anything impressive. It wasn't until seeing him play in person that I thought the potential was real. I felt that by KC's junior year, he could be a starter and a decent playmaker.
On the other hand, Norton's mixtape makes it seem like he could be a day-one starter at point guard. That's hyperbole, but a good mixtape should make you look like a superstar.
Like William Lee, Norton carried his team to a win in the state championship game, so I think that further cements his real abilities vs. potential.

Me neither. Don't know why you would compare them.

It's a legitimate comparison. They both are, in fact, white.

Most of the time white guys can shoot but can't jump.

KC would have played the 2 maybe the small 3 in a crunch with this team, but not the 1. KC was a shooter, the Norton kid is a shooter, game manager with a good handle.

RE: WBB Coach Norton's son offered by UAB?
Sorry, I should have been more clear.
I was really using the comparison to KC Whitaker as a way to temper my own expectations. The kid looks pretty good. Whitaker looked good in practice and prior to arriving to UAB and then didn't pan out be it coaching, mindset or injury. Although it's a new staff, they haven't yet proven they can maintain and develop shooters. Evidence from this year actually shows the opposite. I do like that he's a coach's son, because it probably means he had to work harder to prove he belonged on teams his entire life.
A lot of Blazers never really saw how lights out Whitaker could be (including drilling threes in a boot) and how quick he could find an open space. They remember the crazy off-balance shots and feet not being set when shooting, and that was more on Davis and the coaching staff than it was on Whitaker.
And I said it reminded me "SOME" of what I saw in Whitaker. Particularly, the height of the feet off the ground during jump shots and the ability to adjust his angle on layups to finish.

And a desperate need for this team. Mr. Norton is a press breaker that can shoot.

Would be a good option for UAB to use for one of our 2 available spots.
