I like money. If we need to replace a defector, replace a defector. But for the love of the money, stay at 14. Or if we have two defectors, settle for 12. Did I mention the money?

Yea we should have added Davidson when they went on that one cinderella run. The only non football school that's worth an add is Wichita State, and some teams from the A10 St Louis, VCU, St Joes.

Lmfao. Please 10Miners, tell me what you know about FGCU, and why they should join.

This should be good.

No thanks. Even here in Tampa, except for an occasional BB fan, the response is "who?" when FGCU is mentioned.

The league is too big as it is....

In fact, I think we have 2-4 teams too many.

No reason for the pursuit of FGCU was ever given. OP will surely not deliver, so I say we claim this thread for another purpose.

They may be hard to get but Wichita State should be our target for a basketball only school. With Tulane and East Carolina leaving and WKU replacing Tulsa, C-USA should be a better league than the MVC.

With Mercer headed off to the SoCon, I'd expect to see FGCU in the tournament more often from 2015 forward.

SoCon basketball will get slightly better next year - the league is dumping App State and Georgia Southern (both RPI >300) and getting Mercer (RPI 80), ETSU (RPI 198), VMI (RPI 218). Losing Davidson (RPI 128) and Elon (RPI 165), though, keeps it from being a bigger improvement.

FGCU is worth considering a couple of years down the line. If you watched the ASun championship game, you'll know why. That arena and fanbase was VERY respectable, and if you have a school with that kind of support and commitment to the program, it helps the field.

But...that's at least a decade down the line for any higher mid-major conference. Let FGCU pay their dues in the ASun, Big South, SoCon, or OVC, and THEN evaluate. If they're still packing their house, traveling well, recruiting respectably, investing in infrastructure and staff, while still earning AQs or at least showing up in the tournament finals, you take them.

Maybe that will somewhat make up for the fact that the SoCon is an absolute pile of hot garbage now in football. Replacing App State, GSU, and Elon with two fledgling programs and one that has been in a vegetative state for over 30 years means that 2013 is going to be the norm....a one bid league playing on the opening weekend of the FCS playoffs. Sad to see what was once the best I-AA/FCS conference become a hollow shell of itself, but it was a self-inflicted wound by the tiny privates and The Citadel.

I agree. C-USA expanded too quickly and should have waited. I am not suggesting abandoning any teams currently in C-USA. I am just playing Monday morning quarterback.

Y'all are complicating this ... "if C-USA is looking to add a non football member" ...

It's not. Done.
