I'm pretty sure they decided to play the matches in Qatar at night. I don't think it will be enough and the challenges you mentioned might just end up with the 2018 World Cup being held in Europe/US as a backup. We'll see what happens this year in Brazil.

They certainly can't be trusted to host the 2018 World Cup.

But Blatter is as corrupt as Putin. He'll do nothing.

There's a difference between boycotting and expelling. This would be an expulsion.

Wait, what is the basis for your support of this? Is it b/c of their aggressive military position? Well the U.S. would certainly fall into the category. Is it b/c of the position on homosexuality? Well as I'm sure you're aware, several Middle East countries put Russia to shame in this regard. Yet they are still apart of the international community (UN, World Cup, Olympics, etc.). It's hard to see you're objectivity in the position you've asserted.

Russia stands in direct violation of just about every agreement they have ever signed. They've now invaded 2 of their neighbors during international peace sporting events.

Russia is not a safe place to host the World Cup. There is a violent pogrom being conducted openly in St Petersburg (a host city) with the apparent license of the cities' police force. We're talking about shootings, gassings, beatings, sexual assaults, and possibly lynchings. Many of these are filmed for the benefit of the attackers, many of whom operate unmasked as they have no fear or prosecution (or prosecution for the correct crime). We actually even know the names of the Russian attackers. http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/sochi-o...ary-n22751
And http://americablog.com/2014/02/russian-p...-free.html The situation is similar in Moscow (over 30 documented violent attacks since November). Russia cannot host the World Cup while a group of neo-Nazi thugs runs rampant over its streets assaulting minorities with the apparent license of the authorities.

And just so we're clear, they go after persons of color too.

And yes, once we are done making Russia's World Cup a PR nightmare for the corrupt FIFA and corrupt Russia, we will start in on Qatar.

wow...didn't they just host the olympics? ....they even made fun of the faux pas ring thingy....

keep focusing on the crazy isolated stuff.....sounds like you need to buy a few more rounds of ammo

He can't shoot, he doesn't need ammo... This was captured last time he shot a rifle.

puff, puff, shoot my balls off....

something is definitely loose in the caboose....

to get back on point (I know it's rare)....just look at the craziness in Brasilia...

can't believe we would use this as a diplomatic weapon.....IMO, it's a sad state of affairs

Because hosting the World Cup and the Olympics are a political ENDORSEMENT of the host nation.

Sanctions worked in South Africa. And they'll work here too. We aren't going to stand by and watch NBC and Coca-Cola pay billions of dollars for an informercial for Putin. Our goal is to turn every interaction that Putin's Russia has in the civilized world into a forum to condemn his regime for its abuses. And when were done doing that to Russia, we'll turn our attention to Qatar. Basically make it so annoying for FIFA, and the IOC, and their sponsors that no one ever thinks about giving Putin another high profile international event. And if that's the case, then we will have secured the ability to participate in those events as spectators and athletes without having to face abuse.

At this point, I think we need to worry about the 2014 World Cup more than 2018 or 2022:

Oh noooo. Red someones coming to your house to take away your LGBT card away. How dare you put down "ICE DANCING".

You won't be getting any more invitations to those ice dancing competitions get togethers at your friends houses anymore. I hear Boitano is a cutey. 03-cloud9

Quote:Republican Senators Mark Kirk of Illinois and Dan Coates of Indiana co-wrote a letter to FIFA President Sepp Blatter last week demanding that the Russian national team be expelled from the 2014 World Cup and the 2018 World Cup — which Russia will host — be relocated following the country’s invasion of Ukraine. The senators cited FIFA’s decision to exclude Yugoslavia from the 1994 World Cup, a result of the Yugoslav Wars, as a precedent.

....just another 'wow' moment in life

What? it's the right call by the Senators on this one. This is one where a nation's leadership actions have to have some financial repercussions, and this would be one of those repercussions. The Senators are _asking_ (not mandating) that FIFA do something that could hurt Russia in the pocket book.

Note: this has nothing to do with Tom's weird "they're anti-gay" rants (which are getting loonier by the minute the more he goes off on them), in fact I posted this even before i got into the second post.
