To clarify, when I say"these bats" I mean those using them.

You're welcome, and thanks for stopping by. It was quite a Saturday - 27 innings and almost 8 hours of baseball. ODU has a good, solid ball club based on this weekend. Good luck for the rest of the season (at least until the conference tournament).

I know that the bats are not the reason that we are not hitting better. I know that both teams have to use the same kind of bats. It just feels like they lower the elite teams down to the level of the rest.

It's awesome to be a conference with Rice. I'm glad the Monarchs pulled this one out!

Is it just Rice or is it college baseball? Game after game with only a few runs and almost no home runs is boring, boring, boring.

Isn't Reckling on the large size for college yards? Wind conditions, low elevation, and high humidity would seem to already make it one of the hardest places to hit the ball hard.

I've previously read that high humidity results in the opposite effect than that. Here's one example: http://www.exploratorium.edu/sports/ask_...ugust.html

(Obviously, 100%+ humidity -- i.e. liquid water in the air either in precipitation or fog -- is a different story).

I think someone has quantified this (Boyd maybe?), and Reckling had a small pro-pitcher effect. Probably because of the size/winds.

You're correct on Boyd. And it's a very, very small factor: 97 for 2008-2011 (basically runs scored at home / runs scored away) and no factor (100) in 2009-2012. From 1999-2002, it was worse: 90.

Here's his explanation of his approach to arrive at the numbers: http://www.boydsworld.com/breadcrumbs/realpf.html

Here's the 1999-2002 data: http://www.boydsworld.com/breadcrumbs/pf2002.html
