Of course not. That's silly. You'll be at least the 4th best.

According to this one measuring stick... But like Z said....this year belongs to the Ragin Cajuns!

With first place finishes in baseball and softball....do you think we will end up in 5th?
GEAUX UL!

So if South Al actually wins the Bubbas Cup, you would consider South Al as the best program right?
But the Cajuns won the Belt in Football, Basketball more than likely Baseball and Softball. Four of the big 5. Yet we are the 4th or 5th best athletic department because we do not play as many sports?
I didn't say anything about South Alabama, I don't care enough to investigate why you're 5th.
Your post suggest you don't investigate anything!

Actually my post only pertained to the Bubas Cup standings, but if it suggested that I didn't investigate, then it was correct. I didn't. The standings that were posted indicate you're 5th. I accept it as accurate.

Sorry.

sorry we don't have a swim and gymnastics team or even ladies golf. LOL! I can guarantee to you that UL football, baseball, basketball and even softball garner us way more attn. nationwide than any Bubba gump would. You go ahead and roll around in it, though. LOL!

Hum, we win Men's tennis championship and score 6 points, Ga. St. Wins Women's Tennis and scores 9 points. What numnuts decided that a team should score less points to win a championship just because there are less teams in the league.. Same problem in football. Whoever devised this scoring system must have skipped their statistical analysts classes...

It's based on the number of schools who sponsor that sport. So for men's tennis there are 6 teams that sponsor that sport. 1st place (Louisiana Lafayette) won 6 points. 2nd place won 5 points, 3rd place won 4 points and so forth. Women's tennis have more teams that sponsor that sport, therefore more points.

That's obvious. However why not weight the scoring so winning a championship scores the same regardless of league size while coming in last scores the same regardless of size. Every place in between weights down as you go. Weighting is used all the time.

If you did that the results don't change much. That is the way the SEC scores their conference cup. I often do that method for the Sun Belt to see what it looks like. It never seems to change much. Doing it that way changes the ranks to the below:
92.5 WKU
84 USA
77 ASU
74.5 Louisiana
73 TXST
72 GAST
69.5 UTA
58.5 Troy
48.5 UALR
43.5 ULM

Yeah, WKU is going to win it this year without really winning much outside of Volleyball and Soccer.

Its not the quality of the Bubbas Cup, but ASU is the highest ranked SBC Team in the Learfield Sports Directors Cup (The NCAA Version of the All Sports Trophy) We are in 74th place nationally with 186 points. Cajuns are second in the SBC and in 146th place overall with 70 points, though they have a chance to gain significant ground with Softball and baseball still to be recorded.

How do they score or weight this ranking. Seems a hugh difference for similar overall conference results to date.

No much of a change but I think it represents a cleaner distribution of points based on overall sport results. WKU clearly the winner not by winning a bunch of championships but by being in the top 3 in 6 sports which doesn't even include their swimming program..

Is there any way we could get the conference office to password protect the results?

Maybe get the conference to forbid Western from winning it? :)

Points based on NCAA postseason performances.
ASU is getting points for a 5th place national finish in Bowling, and a 19th and 24th place finish in Men's and Women's Track and Field.
Cajuns are getting points for 33rd place in Men's Basketball, and has points in another sport. WKU has points for Women's Basketball and Swimming.
Football does not offer points.

Just to clarify, Swimming and Diving are no longer SBC-sponsored sports, so they get no points for that this year.
