That will never happen in Alabama. Most people in Alabama don't give a crap about basketball. It's hard wired in.

The North Carolina Duke series gets attention not because it is an in state rivalry but because people there care about basketball.

We have had a series with Auburn. It was not as successful as our memories want it to be. Do you know when it was most successful? When it was played the night before the Iron Bowl in Birmingham. In other words, it was successful when it was tied to football. And as a basketball fan, it was pretty disheartening to hear Auburn fans chant "we want Bama" even before the basketball game was over.

I've given up on basketball ever granting a speck of interest in Alabama year round. If anything it gets a little interest when the bowl games are done, when one of the SEC teams has a decent year, and drops off even before March Madness because spring training is getting started.

UAB playing North Carolina couldn't even get a full house. Ridiculous

Well I get that it won't happen right now. But I don't think it's impossible.

I think if you wait for basketball to be big in alabama before you push for a UAB-UAT series, you'll wait forever. It's like waiting for football at UAB to be big before you push for on OCS. Sometimes you need a trigger, and impetus.

And while you may be right about the proclivities of alabama residents, don't forget that Birmingham is attracting lots of transplants right now.

For basketball to be big in Birmingham, Alabama football and Aubrn football have to in the tank for about a decade. Remember that UAB basketball had its biggest fan support in the 80’s when Alabama football was at a low point (ray perkins and Bill curry era).

Geez I'm starting to sound like Bamanblazerfan

In response to his mention of Davis doing so well in Texas. What is UAB's record vs. the SWAC again? Undefeated isn't it?

O the halcyon days of the murry bartow era at UAB when we won four straight SWAC titles.

Yeah, I had a chuckle at that.

Given Davis' career trajectory, Indiana, UAB, Texas State Tech, or whatever, his next gig will be a middle school girls team in Idaho.

RE: How bad is college basketball in Alabama? Let me count the ways (Kevin Scarbinsky)
I do think some rivalries would be helpful in this state. Everybody on this board wants to look to Alabama and Auburn, but those just aren't happening.(especially Bama) There is no reason we can't play Samford or USA home and home. I'd much rather do that than non D-1 schools we've never even heard of. If nothing else, those games are winnable road games that can be traveled to.(road wins help in the RPI, it's nice to be able to see the team play)

It all just depends on what we get on our schedule. A game against Samford is going to draw more fans than a game against team X that we have to look up to determine what state they are from. A lot of us don't like the way Alabama and Auburn treat us, but we want to treat these schools the same way. Doesn't make much sense to me.

I'd be happy to play samford, USA, Troy, etc, as long as the rest of our OOC schedule is loaded with big games. We can't afford to have a schedule like this years again.

I would be for a season opening H&H with Samford. Two for ones with JSU, Troy, A&M, and State.

Home and home with USA. I have no desire to play Tuscaloosa. I would welcome a H&H with Auburn but they won't come back to Bartow so screw them.

We could easily play Samford, Troy and USA without destroying our SOS. I'm saying to replace the 2 non d-1's with two of them, and then take your pick on the rest of our schedule.(Troy was already there, so that works) We do not need to do those 3+ Florida A&M, Alabama A&M, Chattanooga, and Georgia Southern. I would argue that Rutgers and Northeastern were decent games as far as schedule intent went, and Temple was as down as they've been in years.

At this point, I'd like to see our schedule look something like this:

1 tournament-the best we can get
2 or 3 of the teams above(or the others Attalla listed, just don't put 5 of them on one schedule, we won't overcome that)
1 SWAC team
2-3 games against average power conference teams(Rutgers and LSU would have fit this mold here)
Memphis(figure it out, it's a good game)
1-2 games against solid power conference teams(UNC fits-might not always get a home and home out of it, take what you can get, even if it's a one time away game, although I'd prefer at least 2 for 1)
2-3 games against above average non power teams. I'll never understand why this is so damn hard for every non power school to do.

That would at least give us a chance to offset some of the bad conference games we'll have. Right now, we have 5 future members that are 229 or worse. Adding WKU will help, but it won't offset all of that. Hopefully the teams at the top continue to improve and we can get at least a couple of top 50 teams in the future.

Chattanooga is a H&H we go there next year.

I would not mind a H&H with Murray State.

I agree, a H&H with Murray State would be a good one. So would Belmont.

Do we know much about next year's schedule:

Atlantis
LSU
@UNC
@Chattanooga
Troy/@Troy???

WOW!!! What a line up!! It really pays off to hire a well connected BBHC. I hope we win, or at least don't get killed.
