I'm looking for a car
Looking for a first car for my daughter. My limit is 4,000 cash.

What she wants is an Altima with a sunroof.

Any similar car would do, like an Accord, Civic, Maxima, etc.

If anyone has something they want to sell, please pm me.

Thanks.

Great choices for a first car. Gave my daughter our old Accord with 125,000 miles on it. Promised her if she took care of it for a year we would look at something else. Got her a Jeep when she started college. She kept it for 8 years.

Have you looked on Craigslist and at the Police auction?

I've been on craigslist every day.

Where is this police auction you speak of, Lat? Is there a website?

Go to the city website and search City auto auctions.

There is one today and I think every Tuesday.

Thanks a lot man. I didn't know about these. Now the only problem is getting off work on a Tuesday. Lol.

RE: I'm looking for a car
The Oldsmobile Alero is a pretty nice car as well. We got ours for $3000 in 2010 (it is a 2001).
Has been a very nice car for my wife and I.
Good luck finding the car.

RE: I'm looking for a car
Check out craigslist, have to sort through the junk, but took us 6 weeks to get my daughter a car. We bought my daughter a 2006 corolla with 84K, some old lady had it , and took it in every year to get serviced. Had a stack of service papers. Paid a little more than we wanted, but it is in great condition. Daughter is 15 and now has learner's permit. Wanted to know why she had no back up camera, sirius/xm, and heated leather seats like mom's car!!! Kids these days!

RE: I'm looking for a car
I can also recommend a Scion tC, made by Toyota. It's a really cool little car, sporty and loaded with neat stuff, handles really well and fun to drive. The reason I recommend it is that it is also one of the safest cars you can drive. Check it out on the two safety sites. I got my teenage son one with full confidence. Neither of us have had any trouble with ours, and mine is 9 years old. The only drawback is that there is a C-pillar blind spot that you have to learn to cope with.

A Corolla with 84K miles is barely broke in. I have a Tundra and I'd love an older corolla for trips.

I live 30 miles to work on Dallas freeways, and the gas mileage is great. When we took it in for inspection, the guy who did the inspection wanted to buy it. I plan on driving it till she gets her license.
Hubby has a Tundra for work, and I have a 2012 Honda Pilot. I love that car! With 3 teens and a dog, band instruments and tag a long friends, a CRV or Highlander was not an option. My Pilot seats 8, with lots of leg room to spare.

RE: I'm looking for a car
One more word of warning...be wary of buying from private individuals...even if they have a Carfax report.
In 2009 my wife bought a car when we got here to Kentucky....a nice looking red grand-Am that looked like it had been well taken care of.
For some strange reason...it always needed a jump in winter-time...but had nothing wrong with the alternator or battery.
Turns out when a mechanic looked at it...that some amateur genius had partially rewired the electrical system with TELEPHONE wiring.

I've never bought one privately, but if you go the eBay route out of town, I'd insist on taking it to a local mechanic of your choosing you found on Angie's List or something like that. If they balk, they can sell it to someone else.

RE: I'm looking for a car
You can find good cars on Craigslist (good condition, owned by little old ladies), but you have to be patient. Call retirement homes as another option.

I (not an old lady) sold my Jeep on Craigslist. Sold it in 5 days. Nothing wrong with buying/selling cars on Craigslist. You just have to shop smart.

RE: I'm looking for a car
Last car I bought from a person was actually an investment. I was looking through the classifieds in the commercial appeal(rare I ever picked up the rag) Saw a Jeep Wrangler for sale for 15k that had 2000 miles on it. I thought it was a typo. Wasn't in the need for a car but called the guy and sure enough he had bought it and it was sitting in his garage and his wife wanted him to get rid of it. Bought for 14k. Drove it around as a second car for a bit and then sold it for 16k.

What'd you buy?

How much?

How many miles?

Etc.?

2004 Dodge Neon SXT
83,000 miles
Loaded with sunroof
All black inside and out
$4250

She loved the car. It had the all-important sunroof she was looking for. It had the low miles, low price and excellent condition I was looking for. Everybody wins..02-13-banana

It looks just the this one:
