That show is so bad. It is like you took the awful, scripted, poorly acted parts of Pawn Stars and American Pickers and made a whole show. I didn't care for it before the patriarch's sentiments made it to the internet so that only compounded things. I would hold my nose and go if we are invited.

I wouldn't attend that bowl if Troy went.

I also would be against Troy accepting the bid.

I'm not seeing the problem here.

Why, because Phil wasn't politically correct, IYO?

Because as a gay man, his words are offensive.

and as a gay man you never say something that could be considered offensive to others?

I'm not a celebrity or a public official.

I've never discriminated against someone no.

I doubt he even was aware of what magazine he was talking to and he's still entitled to his opinion

What does being a celebrity have to do with his beliefs??? He has a right to them as much as any of us. And like it was said, what response did you or anyone expect from an outspoken Christian man???

We have a few gay posters on this board, no one, that I can tell, has ever discriminated against any of those posters, or changed the way we posted towards you.

What anyone does in the privacy of their home is their business, do I think there needs to be a parade about it, no. Last time I checked there isn't a "Straight Day Parade"...

Pretty much.

Only thing I know from watching some of the show is that the Duck dynasty people are fairly socially unaware, and Phil Robertson's comments prove that.

So am I and I won't support it or his product. We are in a civil rights movement. Things will progress and people will say stupid stuff as they did in the 50s And 60s with black people.

that is when it becomes a problem when people try to force others into being "PC" on everything. I'm not a big bible thumper and I try to live my life by the golden rule instead a strict interpretation of the bible. With that you have the right to your beliefs just as I do and when someone tries to force me into something just because it's "pc" you are infringing on my rights more than the person just voicing his.

Wouldn't be my first choice for a bowl but I would go....my first choice will always have a coast close by

This is a commom mistake made by the "I stand with Phil Robertson" and Chick-fil-a day" folks.

No one(or very few anyhow) are suggesting that Phil Robertson or Dan Cathy don't have the right to have their opinion or that they don't have the right to express their opinion, just that they are not free from consequences for expressing those opinions. The really twisted and hypocritical thing about those folks is that many of them are the same people who speak out against and threaten to boycott companies who choose gay spokespeople(see: One Million Moms vs JC Penny/Ellen Degeneres).

So in these peoples mind, it's unreasonable for people to protest a company who makes public comments denouncing homosexuality and/or gives money to groups actively fighting against marriage equality and the people who are offended are trying to take away free speech, but on the other hand it's perfectly reasonable to protest and boycott a company that hires a spokesperson who happens to be a homosexual...

You clearly understand nothing about "these people's mind" as you are finding incongruity where there isn't any. There is always a lunatic fringe, but the overwhelming majority of people who stood with Phil or participated in CFA day did so not to denounce anything - but to support something they agreed with. They completely accept the idea that people who disagree with CFA or Phil Robertson have the right to boycott or otherwise impose consequences for the stands they take. However, when that happens, they also want to make sure that their voice is heard as well. A mass showing of support is simply the flip side of a boycott (but let's not pretend the boycotts you mentioned get anywhere near the participation rate as the showings of support), it is perfectly reasonable to do both.

Um... the backlash against those boycotting CFA/Phil Robertson was absolutely incongruous, accusations of infringing on first amendment rights, being called overly sensitive/overly PC/attacking Christianity is not simply "the other side of the boycott".

I've never actually watched the show but I've seen commercials about it. It certainly has taken America by storm, I have to admit. Don't enjoy reality TV at all.

As I said regarding the whole Michael Sam story when it was in full-blown hysteria mode: If I'm not supposed to care whether someone is gay or not, stop continually telling me whether someone is gay or not.

This whole thread is a lot of what is wrong with this country today.

We are a Christian country founded on Christian values, as we lose those values we will lose our country.

I don't hide it... Most wouldn't know I'm gay because I don't act what most people perceive as gay. I think it's just irrelevant to this board.

This is the one bowl I would NOT go to. First off I'm not spending money to go to some place I've never heard of, second I won't spend money that benefits the duck dynasty characters in ANY way.
