Petition to split California into six states gets green light
Quote:A venture capitalist who feels colossal California is too unwieldy to govern is proposing to split it into six separate states, and Secretary of State Debra Bowen has given him the green light to start collecting petition signatures.

Tim Draper filed a ballot initiative in December stating that because of recent social and economic changes California has become “nearly ungovernable.”

He proposed dividing California into six states. San Diego and Orange County would make up “South California.” “West California” would include Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, while Bakersfield, Fresno and Stockton would make up the larger “Central California.” San Francisco and San Jose would be in the new “Silicon Valley.” “North California” would include the Sacramento area, and “Jefferson” would be home to the Redding and Eureka areas.

So basically, we'd have 5 more liberal states (you could argue that SD/Orange county leans more conservative I think) to further corrupt the US govt situation?

Most likely. I don't support dividing states like this, but it's interesting nonetheless.

RE: Petition to split California into six states gets green light
I see this as an attempt by LIBERALS/Progressives to keep the Senate Permanently Democrat by adding 10 new senators. If CA split were to happen 5 of the new 6 CA states would be dark blue, the 6th would be light blue.

NY has two proposals to split into two states a well. One would keep a limited central government so not a true split the other would create two independent states here both states would be Dark Blue as well.

I think splitting some states makes sense where one urban area controls state wide elections. Philly comes to mind so PA should split. Chicago is another example so IL should split. Splitting liberal states like NY and CA into smaller states makes no sense.

But they could potentially lose liberal electoral votes, right?

Tennessee could be three states...

West Tennessee - Memphis, Jackson, Union City/Reelfoot Lake

Middle Tennessee - Nashville, Murfreesboro

East Tennessee - Knoxville, Chattanooga, Johnson City

No, they would still keep the same number of House members so there wouldn't be a change in EV.

Let's just go ahead and let the southern states be their own country. We could admit other states like Utah and Idaho if they wished to join us.

The United States ended when we elected Obama for a second term. We are just prolonging the inevitable. The left wants one thing and the conservatives want another. Neither side is ever going to budge.

Really if you split off the west coast states and everything north of PA, it would be a pretty good country.

Then we could add those good parts. Let the liberals cesspools finish themselves off.

Why are we including Oklahoma as the south? I thought we made it pretty clear we don't want you.

I always thought two states (NorCal and SoCal) would be more likely, but I'm just an uninformed observer.

I think any city in the nation with more than 3 million inhabitants should be allowed to vote to become their own states. Many large cities in Germany are also states and it seems to work well.
