Conference Mid America?

Of course JMU is the best draft pick East of the Rockies available as an FCS upgrade school. JMU has 25,000 seats. The other candidates have capacities in the 15-20k range which is marginal capacity at the top level.

It was thought that FCS schools wanting to move up had to be close at least to that 25,000 seat mark though CUSA brought in Charlotte and ODU in the teens and UMass for the MAC, though the MAC forced them to lease out a NFL Stadium until they made press box upgrades ect. at home. Maybe 15,000 is the new minimum we are working with today.

This is true. Liberty is at 19,200 and holding on the expansion until they get the invite. The plan is 25,000 once the invite comes. The money is ready and waiting!

One AD at the Sun Belt meetings was quoted when expansion came up as saying "Give Me Liberty, Or Give Me Death"
What did they do with his body after that?

I'm not sure the CAA would offer you a home without football. I could be wrong but I just don't see it.

CAA football is a different legal entity from CAA all other sports.

Yep.

JMU's AD is on record that he doesn't want a football only invite. He wants as many sports as possible to play in the same conference.

Had not seen that. Not saying it's not true, I just haven't seen it in writing from Bourne, or a quote in any newspaper or internet article.

Liberty has got the one thing few schools do... several guys with BIG checkbooks that are more than happy to pull out the pen.

Kind of odd then that Liberty had very little money until they plugged into their online college curriculum a couple of years ago.

We're not take any football only invites unless they are a million miles away.

Not quite a million but, JMU to
Idaho - 2536 mi
NMSU - 1880 mi
Texas St - 1426 mi
ULL - 1071 mi
ULM - 970 mi
S Ala - 868 mi
Ga State - 550 mi
Ga Southern - 538 mi
App State - 286 mi

That's a lot of frequent flyer miles!

The money has always been there. The Williams name is on just about every building on campus and including Williams Stadium and the A L Williams Football Operations Center.

Truth be told the big turn came when Falwell passed away. He had an insurance policy that got us out of the red. Now, the online curriculum is a cash cow.

Smart move on Falwell's part.

Maybe a million dollar donation to the Red Wolf Foundation would change AState's mind on Liberty. :)

Hey, now there is a novel idea! 03-thumbsup

With all the resistance to Liberty it might make sense.

They say money talks.... Liberty seems to have access to almost endless cash flow (compared to the rest of us). And lets face one fact, any other program in the footprint or edge there of, with the resources Liberty has would be a shoe in to the conference.

Liberty stands to gain a bunch of exposure for their cause - worth some $ I'd dare say.

So, they crank out the check book.... 2 Million "buy in" to each 11 other football members and they put the screws to the in state JMU by filling the last FBS spot in sight for what be MANY years? 22 Million dollars...... Don't they have like 100,000 (including on line) students https://www.liberty.edu/aboutliberty/?PID=6925 ?
That's like a $220 one time fee per student. $110/Semester?

You think the Presidents would say no to that?

My statement didn't comply with the statute of frauds so no contract.

If undertable cash will get you a summer athletic event in a desert or a winter event in a place noted for being a summer vacation spot, there may be wiggle room.

Need 9 votes... there are 9 football full members. $2 million each is $18 million spread that over four years, entirely manageable.

Actually 4thOption I think what makes better sense is Associate membership in all sports.

The NCAA doesn't care about the legal structure just that an FBS plays the Oly sports they sponsor in the conference as long as the conference sponsors those sports.

Maybe instead of getting greedy, we admit Liberty as an associate member in each of our sports so that we have to renew the association every year or two. Instead of some tacky $2 million bribe maybe something more manageable like $250k per school "protection" er contribution each year. 03-shhhh

Works for FIFA and the Olympics... why not give it a whirl but we prefer voluntary and unrelated donation.
