How come nobody talks about Richmond?
When App State requested a FOIA last year, a list of Sun belt candidates came up.

Quote:Appalachian State
Delaware
Georgia Southern
Idaho
Illinois State
Jacksonville State
James Madison
Lamar
Liberty
Missouri State
New Mexico State
Richmond
Sam Houston State
Towson
UT Chattanooga

Four of the schools on the list are future sun belt members. There's been a lot of talk about Liberty and JMU, both of whom in Virginia but what about Richmond? They're also in the state of Virginia, have an okay market, has a sufficient stadium, won an FCS national championship a few years ago and even has a unique mascot. The Spiders!

So why not Richmond? Benson and the presidents seem to like them and they're an Eastern partner for App State.

You're kidding, right? Why would they leave the A10 in hoops? They have a good thing going with VCU. The stadium is nice, but it seats 10,000, and isn't set up to expand but by a couple thousand.

I don't mind you throwing spaghetti on the wall, but put it in some boiling water first.

Richmond would be a perfect candidate for the AAC.

They have a city stadium that seats 22k.

Richmond is private. They're not interested in moving up. They're very happy in the Atlantic 10. Even if St Louis and Dayton leave.

They moved out of that stadium into an on campus facility three years ago. App won the final game played at City Stadium (which was once called UR Stadium).

In case there's any debate as to which one of us knows what he is talking about, I happen to live in Richmond. 04-chairshot

I live in Richmond also, and since this was moved to the smack side, I'll say the thought of UR moving back to FBS is the ramblings of a crazy person. And that win at UR Stadium sure was a fun night for App fans. I think we had a bigger crowd than the Spiders - for anyone still entertaining the notion of an FBS Richmond Spiders. Richmond is a VCU and VT town, now I could still VCU on the FBS fast track if they started up football. But not UR.
