Gasser coached TE last season whether or not he had the official title.

So we have a man who has coached WR's coaching our WR's.
And we have a man who played TE, and has coached TE's, coaching our TE's.

Makes sense to me.

This isn't too much change, but hopefully the right amount around the GB to get somethings done.

And a guy coaching QB's who hasn't played or coached the position before. 03-banghead

Tom Herman, OSU's OC/QB coach played WR in college. Luke Fickell was a nose guard in college and coaches LB's now. Zach Smith, OSU's WR coach, to my knowledge, never played college ball. Though, he was a quality control coach at Florida for a couple of years.

My point? There's an awful lot of successful programs, that have coaches coaching positions they've never played. I only did a quick look at OSU's staff but feel free to look at other big time staffs. You'll probably also find guys that played offense now coaching on the defensive side of the ball and vice versa.

I don't think it's something to lose sleep or bang your heads over.......for now.

I was just trying to keep with the theme of the thread...
Good point...it's not a prerequisite for success. One of my OC's (Greg Myer) didn't even play football...he was a baseball guy.

My concern with Candle coaching QB's is the fact that he still seems to be struggling with the OC position. Our offense has not run smoothly since Campbell became the HC.

I think a lot of that has been injury related. Also the loss of Page was big. Eric could aways get separation on his routes. The passing % went down then just like Bruce's dropped when Lance graduated. Rocket return teams also dropped off last season giving UT poorer field position. I believe we'll be in better shape on Offense this season. Now if the staff took a few notes on how SeaHawks' played their coverage in the Super Bowl, Rockets will be ready on Defense.

If the Rocket Defense can get it's "Points given up per game" to under 20. Then the team will be in "business"!!!!!!

this guy Whitfield, played QB but no one would call him particularly successful. And look what he does now.

I understand the questioning of Candle's ability given the board has had concerns about the offensive play calling but it's Campbell's career. If he made a sour decision, it will follow him. I don't think he put the coaches into the positions he put them because they are friends. He's of the opinion these are the right people for the job.

Remember Campbell coached was the Offensive Coordinator and coach the Offensive linemen. But he was a Defensive end in college.
