Well that would make 4-6 of us. Thats a start - Rome wasnt built in a day. Maybe we should meet up prior to Thursday game and see if we can have any kind of impact. Worth a shot. PM me if interested.

(This invitation goes out to anyone else here who is current student, grad student, recent grad, or feels comfortable sitting in that section).

All are welcome - send me a message.

Wow I didn't realize posting the pictures would start a movement. Lol. I'm glad. Sometimes major change has to start small. I should use some of these pictures to make an ODU desktop wallpaper, something like "Restore the Monarch Pride". That could add fuel to the movement.

Go ODU!!

I will. Does anyone here know if I need permission to use the official Old Dominion logo? I don't want to piss anyone off; even though I'm trying to help the university, they might not see it that way. I certainly don't want to get in any legal trouble.

You're fine, unless you charge for it.

Not sure what kind of president she was as far as managing the university as a whole, but basketball attendance and atmosphere was definitely more of a priority for her than the current administration. Again, not judging the overall presidencies, just sayin.

RE: Do we have the worst student section in the country?
My take on the presidencies during my interest in ODU is like this: Koch got things moving in the right direction academically and got ODU to a respectable place in that regard. He basically oversaw the move from a glorified community college type mission to a national university. Runte improved ODUs visibility, greatly improved campus life, brought football, and generally made it much more of a traditional campus with all the benefits that came with it. Added dorms, beautified campus. She was also pretty aggressive in trying to improve ODUs stature in the legislature to improve funding, build support and at the time, hopefully a merger with EVMS. Broderick basically has kept the status quo.. other than the move to FBS, I cant think of one great thing that has happened to credit him with. Things (other than crime) havent gotten worse as far as I can tell. So thats something. Maybe Im wrong, and am missing some things, but this is how I see it.

Things I would like to see from ODU in the next 5-10 years:
1. Move up to tier 1 (top 200) national universities in US News & WR.
2. Start merger with EVMS (long shot I know) or start a law school
3. A significant drop in on campus crime and NO students killed.
4. Join the AAC and go at least .500 with VCU in hoops
5. a new capital campaign ($50 million +)
6. rising admissions standards
7. significant campus beautification
8. at least 5 programs in the top 50 in their respective fields
9. lower student/faculty ratio
10. a serious east coast regional awareness campaign and campus pride efforts

Get me a President who can pull these types of things off and I will donate as much money as possible to support it.

I agree with your list. I think #1 is achieved by #2.

http://www.usnews.com/education/best-col...nd-weights

Faculty recources gets a huge bump with a medical school, as does financial resources. Together that's 30% of the total weight. If you look at the subcategories for faculty resources then you see that every single one of those is bumped by the addition of a medical school.

#5 and #6 are things that can be done by the administration with relative ease. #8 isn't that difficult, these things are mainly measured by the number of PhDs that the department graduates. A lot of ODU grad students are at the master's level, this needs to be changed. Some faculty don't like having many PhD students, some of them love it. Student/post-doc research is a major part of NSF proposals (you're supposed to show how the grant would help development and education). These things, while not easy are not difficult to instigate.

1, 6 and 9 go together. 3 and 7 go together to a point.

We should absolutely not start up a law school. Way too many current graduates for the number of available jobs.

Football is definitely helping out with #10.

I agree with your prognosis about law schools, but law schools also graduate politicians who then hold the keys to funding. So indirectly, a law school gets ODU the respect and fair funding it deserves and provides a balance to guys like the W&M blowhard and Northam. I dont think ODU currently has any grads as representatives other than Kenny Alexander. I could be wrong on that though.

I really want to see the letters ODU replace EVMS. I know that is a long shot but very possible.

Northam definitely not a lawyer! He is so much better than Norment and his ilk! He is a pediatric neurosurgeon. He graduated from VMI and EVMS then became an Army doctor. We should all hope that there were more lawmakers like Northam.
