No way. Maybe if he was looking down at him and kicked him. But he was looking straight ahead. No way to know he knew he wasn't totally stepping over the guy's leg.

Good game Tulsa!!!!

Hope we don't meet you in the tourney. If we do, I hope we can shoot better. If this game had been played in Tulsa, you guys most certainly would have won.

Nice game LT. You beat a good team and barely counts.

Personally, I'm nervous about Tulsa they always give us a good game and mostly beat us regardless of standings.

We have to be able to shoot better from the line than that crap. Anyone that thinks Smith should have been ejected for the kick is flat out wrong but I agree Tulsa got screwed with the call - should have been a double tech on each player.

Really terrible game by us tonight and I amazed that we won - without McNeal making some FT's at the end we would have lost. Really hope Appleby is feeling better soon.

Didn't have to step that vigorously. It was a deliberate kick. Or his spatial awareness is atrocious. The Tulsa player never moved. He was a stationary target. It should've been a double technical. I don't think the kick was hard enough to warrant ejection, however. It was more of a love tap.

I've watched a lot of basketball and I've seen some bad refs but this year takes the cake -

All you want a crew to be is consistent as was mentioned earlier whether good or bad then you can adjust your game to fit the way its being called - that hasn't happened at all this year

We have got to make ft's at a 70% clip if we do, we win by double digits

Tulsa is long and strong and plays very hard

I was just glad to get the w

RE: MBB: LaTech wins 66-61 over Tulsa
There is one bald C-USA ref that may be one of the worst collegiate refs I've seen.

And if you think the men's refs are horrid (and I do), pay attention to the women's games (much, much worse). Most of the female refs haven't a clue. I think, over time, the males are being replaced by female refs in women's hoops, and they just do NOT seem to have the experience calling games that the men have had. Let them earn their stripes in the Sun Belt and OVC.

The women's hoops refs in the Belt were better (last year) than what C-USA is putting out there. They usually had two males.

RE: MBB: LaTech wins 66-61 over Tulsa
I'm not trying to derail the thread, but you guys have to know it's luck of the draw with the refs. Fk, if the NFL can't hire full time competent refs, how would drawing from a pool of collegiate basketball refs be anywhere close.

Again, it's luck of the draw and it sickens me when games run 20-30 mins longer than they should.

One thing I have noticed is they are fairly consistent (still hate this rule) with the hand-check call....it's in the paint where they seem to be failing with consistency.

La. Tech just refused to relent, their energy and determination was clearly on display, congratulations to them. I did a lot of channel flipping last night, and can't recall any other time I saw more than one C-USA game on TV on the same night, UTEP looked like the "road warriors" I percieved them to be against East Carolina. Man, when the Miners and Golden Eagles play one another, that may very well be the Conference regular season game of the year.

Obviously the incident was not a big one, and Smith wasn't looking down at the guy on the floor to kick him as players ALWAYS do when they are trying to intimidate. Great call by the officials. Congrats to the Bulldogs, but I certainly don't want to be in Tulsa's side of the bracket come tournament time...

And they get the ball back after the charge... ridiculous.

Actually believe it or not, this has happened to USM. What happens is one ref signals a foul call away from the ball at the same time as a simultaneous charge call happens. The charge foul is called, the away from the ball foul is not, but the ball goes with the possession arrow.

DT was up in arms about this in a game last year, but they explained it to him and he understood. He wasn't happy about it, but he understood the call.

And I know exactly which one you're talking about. I was pulling my hair out with his stupid calls. I was really getting riled up with his refereeing. My wife had to settle me down at one time as I was "spitting" mad.03-banghead

p.s. that was in the latech game.

Inside joke? Well, are you letting us in on it? We might be able to use it.
