DALLAS - For the first time in eleven years and the first time on New Year's Day in program history, the North Texas football team is a bowl champion.

In a game that epitomized the 2013-14 North Texas season, the Mean Green fell behind early but showed its boundless resiliency, methodically taking control of the game, battering the UNLV offense into submission, getting an efficient performance from senior quarterback Derek Thompson, and scoring a Heart of Dallas bowl-record 22 fourth-quarter points to roll to a 36-14 victory Wednesday afternoon at the Cotton Bowl.

RE: HOD: UNLV 14 North Texas 36
I know this isn't breaking news, but I had to make it my first post.

The really interesting thing about this win is what effect it will have on UNT's and C-USA's perception in DFW going forward. UNT needed a to have a good season in its first year in C-USA. I think the Mean Green hit it out of the park. Add in the fact that TCU and SMU both had bad seasons and missed out on bowls, and the Mean Green look even better. By affiliation, so does C-USA.

I think it's safe to say C-USA beat the AAC in the battle for DFW this season. I wonder how our conference fared in other markets where the conferences overlap?
