RE: UH basketball history
UH should do what Memphis did in 2000, go ahead and fire Dickey now and spend the next month or two recruiting Bruce Pearl. This would be tricky, because he has a show cause until August I think - they'd have to just get him under contract but not officially hire him until then. They could hire his assistant (Steve Forbes, currently at Wichita State) or some other caretaker until then.

Programs like Houston's (major city) need a promoter as much as they need a coach.

Memphis hoops does not need a promoter; just needs to win.

FB is another story.

He's going to become a hot commodity when that show cause runs out so if someone really wants him, they're gonna have to start throwing money and resources his way right out of the gate. It'll be interesting to see where he ends up landing.

RE: UH basketball history
UH does need a coach to promote as well as coach, no doubt in my opinion to get people to take notice. UH needs to right it ship by recruiting some of the greater talent that is in Houston and surrounding area's. But just don't recruit locally, lot of people don't realize Guy V recruited nationally, had a lot of players from out of New York, and other places that came through the program. The new AD Mack Rhoades has made some pretty predictable hires, not stellar hires just predictable. James Dickey is a retread, Tony Levine was promoted from speical teams to coach to HC FB ....I don't know if money is the issue not being able to pay a good coach. or lack of out of the box thinking, by Mack the AD when it comes to new hires, whatever the reason it has to be corrected. The AAC needs Houston to be a strong program top to bottom. People in Houston have shown in the past they are willing to support the program, but the program has been comatose for a number of years now.

I really believe that it's a money problem when it comes to hiring a big time coach. I would love to see Jeff Van Gundy or John Lucas.

Where is George Mason now? Where is Butler now? Each is in last place in its respective conference. You have no idea how difficult it is to be a consistent Top 15-20 program.

Bruce Pearl would be a great hire for Houston. I agree that the Cougars need a promoter to help energize the fans and attract players.

Look what is happening at SMU. And, this is the second season.

Yep - Larry visits every fraternity and sorority, speaks at numerous campus events to get the faculty involved, and makes himself available to reporters constantly.
