So NYC is still OK,
Scientists predicted that it would take centuries for the sea level to rise by 20 to 30 feet. Just saying.
I'm not sure where you got the idea that NYC was predicted to already be underwater.
I think it was Ted Danson. If memory serves... We're all supposed to be swimming by 2005 or something.
Are you talking about the actor?
I think so, the drunk bar tender from Cheers? Isn't that the idiots name?
He was out there some time ago completely obliterating any possible credibility the global warming worshipers had with normal, sensible people. I think the hollyweird crowd has done as much to discredit the warming crowd as the lying falsifying pseudo-scientists.

Don't attribute to scientists what idiots like Al Gore and Ted Danson do. I have a feeling that the two groups hardly interact with each other.

It was more of a general statement.

Speaking as someone who now lives in AK, yes it is warmer up here this winter, although we do usually have a one to 2 week warm spell each winter. You need to remember not all of AK is a frozen tundra during the winter. Parts of AK are surrounded by or nearly surrounded by relatively warm Pacific Ocean water. It is not uncommon for parts of southern AK to be in the 50's during the winter. We have not been setting many daily high temp records this year. (none that I have heard of, but I work ALOT!!!) It has been a longer warm spell than many old-timers remember.

Yep, the whole Anchorage/Seward area down to Juneau isn't that bad and typically doesn't have the winter extremes that the US Northern Plains like ND, MN, etc., have. The interior is another story.
Climate change or not, this winter and the one 2 years ago were freakshows for my neck of the woods. This one might be the coldest and snowiest I've ever lived through. The 2011-12 one was the warmest and most snowless I've ever lived through. And the summer that followed it baked.
The 'cause' is debatable, but the jet stream has been abnormally amplified the past few years.

I'm just hoping for a hot and dry summer. All this rain over the past 2 years is killing me and it isn't fun being stuck inside with a 5 year old. Looking forward to some weather where I can send him outside with a basketball and lock the doors.

Same here.
Last Spring and Summer was way too wet… at least with blistering heat I can use the pool.

An unusually cold/snowy winter can be aggravating, but as long as it gets it all in during Dec-Feb, I'm cool with that.
I get major cabin fever when winter lasts too long into Spring. St. Patrick's Day is about my limit. After that, I'd better start trading in the thick jackets for hoodies. But if this year is anything like last year, it'll drag into April.

Really cold winters may suck in the south but they do have a benefit in that the cold gets rid of lots of mosquitos that would otherwise bite the crap out of you come summer.

Its not just the south... This bitter will mean a better pest season in Minnesota as well..

True. One bad part of the cold this winter is there seems to be a local infestation of stink bugs. I catch about 3-5 per week chilling in the house. Have to catch them alive and stick them back outdoors because if you smash them, well, they are called stink bugs for a reason.

The magnetic poles are not the same as the axis at which the earth spins. Yeah, there might be some minor changes to weather thanks to a polar shift, but the way in which the earth is situated in comparison to the sun is what is going to cause the ice at the top and bottom of the earth. I've read no articles that state that any changes to the magnetic poles will change the axis to which the earth spins.

The though right now is a weaker jet stream is allowing this to happen. I won't mention what they believe may be causing the weakening though...
