RE: Did Pastner just troll Calipari??
I remember chiding about a Joe dunk earlier in the season...albeit he hit that one...and getting somewhat reamed for my observation.
People were touting it as a ESPN Top 10 worthy dunk.
Same folks would have been saying the same thing now that they did that night if he had connected on the dunk.
Some of you folks need to make up your minds. Its either ok...or not ok for him to try and dunk it.
I personally would like to see him put it on the glass bank-shot style or those incredibly athletic under and over shots he sometimes makes as opposed to trying to dunk it...as he will usually draw the foul on the play.

It's ALL relative, and in the whole scheme of things, it's some thing that Joe and the team learned from and ALL came together to pull out the W....It was not only a lesson for Joe but for the team.....Now Joe, as the leader can set examples....just put the ball in the hole....but Joe was feeling like MJ last night....He was making spectacular shots....I'm sure he felt in-the-zone and anything he attempted would go down....
I actually was NOT as peeved about the dunk attempt as I am with the front-end of the 1 and 1's......OMG, those burn me up....I can't even watch.....Just concentrate a little more on the first one...relax;slow down; make the shot

Do you really believe - through your interpretation - that Pastner's intent was to disparage KY despite knowing the man's actions (eg, "good players, well coached" mantra) over the past five years?
Why leave it to my interpretation? Had Pastner picked any other school, this thread doesn't exist.
Just wonder how many posters would be blasting Calipari if he has said the same thing after one of our losses?
I could take quotes from anyone and twist it into something offensive to somebody. Anyone with passing knowledge of Pastner's character knows his intent was not to troll KY, but those seeking bad intent will find it.
Nevertheless, you are entitled to your opinion and I will not comment more on the topic.

Eli's answer: "Well, I think, obviously, you have Denver, the best offense in the NFL, and Seattle, probably the best defense in the NFL. ...Both are very talented, both teams are very well coached, and have great players, on both sides of the ball..."
"I'm just happy to be here, and hope I can help the ball club."
Just in case, this was ELI talking, not Payton.

It's not the dunk, it's the windmill dunk. Joe has no problem dunking the ball ... it's when he tries to do something crazy. It's perfectly fine for him to dunk the ball, that's just as safe as a lay up ... just don't go for the highlight reel.

Although I think it's overblown, like almost everything we discuss here, to me, dunking isn't the issue. It was the whole tomahawk thing that was unnecessary, and caused him to miss it, when we needed the bucket.
Dunks are okay, but tomahawks or off the glass shots aren't, particularly when the game is on the line, b/c you run a greater risk of missing.

I agree with this, unlike many of us on this board Pastner has admiration for Cal and his program at UK.

Cal probably loathes the fact the UoM is still successul. Please let us win a NC before I die; that would cause extreme anxiety for a lot of folks.

^^^^This. It was a sure two points had he laid it in and we needed the bucket then. Also, it got the crowd going and gave some momentum to the Knights.
That's the kind of thing you do when you're up big.
Nonetheless, I forgive cause he had a great game otherwise and was key to our win.

I will agree with this, he handled that situation with Joe well. I for one didn't mind it. Joe is starting to really really play well. He is starting to play with great confidence, with the step back jumpers. His stroke is looking way better. I don't mind the dunk attempt. Austin missed a straight in dunk, Pellom missed a bunny layup. Joe's stats were solid tonight. Just think if he had made the dunk?! Wow!
I didn't mind the dunk as he had a wide open drive but he could have just done a boring run of the mill dunk instead of trying to windmill it.

With Austin missing a dunk that ended up sailing away from the bucket just before the missed attempt by Joe, it made Joe's miss seem more aggrevating. But if Joe had made it, none of this discussion would exists and we instead would be hailing him for such an outstanding dunk. About 10 days ago Geron made a similar dunk that made ESPN highlights and no one criticized him for his windmill dunk.

Pastner's handling of Jackson then was great. Yell a little (b/c you are a coach) and then make sure he knows he is too valuable to pull and go play 'his game'.
A little tough love mixed with a general sense of trust. That is how you handle a senior point guard and Jackson's response closing the game out is typical of the positive results we have all come to expect from JJ…
^ Thank you. That says it.
