Rep. Steve Stockman (R-Texas) said Tuesday night that he left President Obama’s State of the Union speech early after “hearing how the president is further abusing his Constitutional powers.”

“I could not bear to watch as he continued to cross the clearly-defined boundaries of the Constitutional separation of powers,” Stockman said in a press release shortly after Obama’s speech ended. “Needless to say, I am deeply disappointed in the tone and content of tonight’s address.”

Stockman said Obama was promising to “break his oath of office and begin enacting his own brand of law through executive decree.”

“This is a wholesale violation of his oath of office and a disqualifying offense,” the Texas congressman said.

Stockman also criticized Obama for refusing to admit “his policies have failed,” and for advancing a plan for more taxes and spending that is a “blueprint for perpetual poverty.”

Good clear points. GOP would be well served to have a mass exodus, with each member stating these exact points.

I recall back in the 1990s, my Congressman, and his Congresswoman fiancee, skipped the SOTU address and watched it in a DC bar. There was quite a kerkuffle over that.

Yesterday, Rush said the GOP should all be taking selfies with other people's wives while Barry was giving the SOTU

He couldn't pass up an opportunity to put himself in the limelight. Political egos are amazing.

The guy is obviously an idiot. Presidents have always had the power of executive order and Obama isn't even anywhere close to issuing out as many executive orders and the previous two presidents.

I don't agree with walking out. Imean, the office of the POTUS should be respected even if the actual POTUS is not respected.

True, but the President could just go back to conducting SOTU addresses from the Oval Office. Having the SOTU speech at The Capitol is just as much grandstanding as is walking out during the precedings.

The SOTU is a President's day to grandstand.

Which is at the discretion of the POTUS. When Carter and Regan were in office, the SOTU addresses when short and direct. No random acknowledgements of people in the audience nor canned applause every 10 minutes. What's going on during theses addresses today reminds me of a mega-church sermon. That is the reason I choose not to watch them.
