The NRA was created for all sorts of reasons according to early members. It was founded to teach safety and skills in the manner they were used during the time of the revolution. Some even used the organization to promote the arming of union workers. But even the NRA doesn't mention the "fact" that Mr. Alford gave.

Now eventually, about 85 years after the founding, the NRA gave a charter to a local leader of the NAACP and he planned to use it to protect people against the KKK.
