Seriously, how is this not "loss of institutional control"? What's more fundamental than classes at a university?

Surely this has to be more serious than selling championship rings, or even paying players.

This would never have been allowed to happen if the NCAA were alive.

I have no clue how they did not get thwomped harder by the NCAA. To me they should have had the book thrown at them right up to the threshold of the death penalty.

In terms of getting a competitive advantage on the field/court (which is what the NCAA should be worried about) this is worse than Penn St. The police needed to be involved at Penn St. but the NCAA didn't necessarily need to be involved.

I'm guessing it's the MAC's fault. U[sic]Toledo set a precedent for fake classes for decades now.

You don't think when an administration allows the law to be knowingly broken they haven't lost control?

As to why UNC didn't get punished or punished more, maybe the phony classes/grades
are not considered an Athletic matter? Others besides athletes got the phony A's, but
it was clearly designed to help athletes.

The NCAA is probably looking around for a death penalty victim - maybe they can pin it on Cleveland State to, you know, set an example that blatant cheating won't be tolerated (unless you're one of the money generating schools)

Yet the 64 or 65 P5 schools want to make their own rules.

I like how the state sets up these "independent investigations" headed by UNC alumni.

It is the Carolina Way. It will probably result in stiff penalties for NCSU, ASU, ECU, NCCU, UNC-A and UNC-W because, of course if UNC-CH did anything slightly out of line it was an aberration and the other UNC system schools were doing much worse and doing it constantly.
