RE: Toledo's New Defensive Coordinator
Let's look at the big picture. First of all, the allotment (dollars) for the coaching staff is limited compared to many others. Coach Campbell hired a man with a little big 10 experience. We know coming into Purdue, he couldn't of had a great deal of talent compared to the other Big 10 teams. Here is a coach who has head coaching experience at the d1AA level. Remember that this is at the upper echelon of D1AA teams, as there is a lot of disparity in 1AA football.
The man sure deserves a chance to prove himself. He must feel he can make a name for himself to go from the Big 10 to the MAC.

If Campbell hires an unknown and it doesn't work he has to be questioned but he is bringing in a documented good DC. Coach campbell knows the road to championships for UT is on the D side of the ball.

My father was just telling me back in the glory days of Toledo Rocket football (1969-1971), our defense was ranked in the top 5 in the nation each year.

Wow, just wow.

I'll be impressed if our pass defenders suddenly realize they actually know how to cover their players they have too cover.
If so this is how I react01-donnankungfu

That is not a terrible resume. We may be fortunate to have been able to get him.

I consider this a home run hire considering his experience!!!!

Glad to see MC hiring someone with some experience. Agreed with what has been said about what he did while on Hazell's staff at Kent St. Looking forward to see what he can do with the Rocket D, he has some weapons on the D-Line & at Linebacker.

RE: Toledo's New Defensive Coordinator
This from Ryan Autullo's article today on important reasons for Coach Campbell selecting Hon Heacock

Quote:Next season will be Heacock’s 12th as a coordinator. He was at the controls of defenses at Kent State (2011-12), Indiana (1997-99) and Youngstown State (1992-96, 2000). His work at Kent, where the Golden Flashes won 11 games in 2012 to break a 40-year bowl spell, caught Campbell’s attention. Heacock’s unit was third in the Mid-American Conference in scoring defense and sixth in yards. A year earlier the Flashes were fourth in scoring and second in yards. In both years they ranked in the top four on third down and in the red zone — two areas of emphasis for Campbell.
