Benz (QB Situation)
I have heard that Tyler Benz is no longer a part of the Program. With the loss of him and Iannotti the QB position becomes very young with Roback and two Redshirt freshmen in Bossard and Bell. Definitely gonna be looking for Creighton to bring in a QB in this class.

I have confidence that Roback can grow into a very good MAC QB but the lack of anyone with exp. behind him worries me some.

RE: Benz (QB Situation)
Darius Scott mentioned to Iannotti on twitter that Benz and Iannotti left him as one of the few Chicago players on the team.

Here is the tweet.

RE: Benz (QB Situation)
Benz would've been a 5th yr senior. Did he already graduate and move on to life after football?

There's a QB visiting this weekend, http://easternmichigan.scout.com/a.z?s=3...id=6802758

With the freshmen that came in last year there is good talent on the team. I'm not concerned with the QB position. Now about that defense...

I hate to see players leave. Even had he not played, and I think there would have been plenty of opportunity, he could have contributed in other ways because of his experience.

This saddens me greatly. I really liked Benz. I always thought that he would have been a great QB in an Air Raid system, and was hoping he'd get a clean slate with CC.

All the best young man. I'll never forget your 2012 game against Toledo.

I too am sad to see him leave.

I think on a good team he would have looked much, much better.

Hate to use the word 'scapegoat' but he might have been a scapegoat for a poor performing offense.

We lacked a lot on O including an efficient OL and WRs.

Wonder if he ends up somewhere like S. IL., E. IL, etc.????

In an alternate universe...
English/Kirchner realized Benz was the best QB on this team from the moment he set foot on campus and started him. Gillett became and All MAC WR and was drafted in the 4th round by the Packers. We went to the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl in 2011. English then left for a coaching job in Arizona. I wish I could have been there too...

RE: Benz (QB Situation)
As we mention Qb we forgot to mention Bell Jr. In another thread I mention that CC when he had the Free Press log in didn't mention Benz which I found curious.

I wish Benz the best, and yes we now need a QB for this class and English and staff really weren't looking at QBs for this incoming class.

Two on Scout: Nick Jeanty from Florida which Scout says we've offered and Noah Durst a QB from Ohio.

Another dual threat QB which EMU has offered see Rivals is this player:

BTW, I agree with everything you said:

Benz should have been the top QB. Gillett had a lot of talent which could have been utilized as it was late in his career.

With better passing and Gillett's skills as a receiver, etc. maybe we would have had a more balanced attack with good runners and better passing.

and in the game of 'IFs' - maybe we'd made a 2011 bowl and English might have gotten his dream job in the desert and...

Now Benz is presumably looking for a new school. English is looking for a new job. And we are still looking for that ever elusive winning season and bowl bid...

Sometimes the difference between success and failure is more happenstance and luck than anything else.
