It has always amazed me
that with all the Tiger fans in the world some tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands that the hand full of idiots on this board seem to get a lot of attention by the coaching staff and the local media. SMH! I mean seriously why should anyone care what people on this site think about the four guard line up or anything else for that matter? Just saying.

So let's start a thread on a site about why anyone would care what is said on the aforementioned site... Makes sense.

To agree, or not to agree, that is the question that is asked of me . . .

1) I don't agree that there are "tens of thousands" of connected, interested, tuned in Tiger fans

2) Based on the above assumption, I can see where the voices of the hand full here would be well heard

3) Did a coach say something, or what? How do we know we idiots on this board do indeed get a lot of attention?

Of all the Tiger fans in the world how many subscribe to this message board? I would guess that it's a small percentage yet the media seems to care what we think and when the coach talks about "tiger nation" not being happy, where is he getting that information? I know this is not the only place but certainly one of them. I just don't see what's so special about the people here, yes me included.

What do you expect from a sports message board consisting of fans, players, coaches, and supporters? This has been going on waaaaaaay before the internet was even a thought. Me & my buds would meet at the local coffee shops and discuss sports for hours on end 2-3-4 times a week.

The only thing different is the social media.

You're missing the point. I don't have a problem with the message board, just with the attention it seems to get from outside sources. Are the opinions of the handful of fans here that important? Especially when there are as many "trolls" here as everyone says.

Couldn't agree with you more. Why would the coaching staff waste one ounce of energy being concerned with any site? I was actually a little disappointed in Josh for going after the Louisville fans. My opinion, he has to rise above that, regardless of who he thinks he is defending or not defending. As for this board, it is like ever other board I visit. Nothing different or special. Why legitimize any of the nonsense by citing or referencing it? Fine for the media to do it, as they are in the business of making money off headlines, but if the staff is doing it, it is misdirected concern.

Unfortunately, this place receives media, recruit, player, and coach attention because - in part - it is gives a readily available indicator of the mood of Tiger Nation. Hopefully, most people ignore and discount posts. However, posters help set the tone to some degree on the discussion of the Tigers.

What is this thread even about? Aside from the occasional mention on local radio what kind of attention is this board getting? The coaching staff? What?

Did I miss something?

It amazes me that people don't understand what a sports forum is. It is fans discussing opinions and games. They all have different views and some even get mad, OH SNAP. It is also sad that many people on sports forums, and the world in general, don't understand that people disagree sometimes.

I think you are correct, which begs the question are message boards a true indicator of the opinions of the fan base as a whole? Or just the opinions of a few of the "fan"atics?

I am not sure the mood of Tiger Nation really matters in the grand scheme.

My assumption is that Net Program Cost and wins and losses are the only factors that really matter.

RE: It has always amazed me
First of all, I am special, regardless of what you think.

Second, like any other business, it is good to hear what your customer is thinking and doing. To ignore that is stupid.

Third, although the bickering has become tiresome around here (just like it has become about everything recently, nobody seems capable of discussion anymore, just fighting), 99% of the people on here really deeply care about the Tigers or they wouldn't be on here.

And lastly, I have rarely ran into a Tiger fan who doesn't stop by here, at least occasionally. Maybe they aren't posters, but they stop by and read.

And we have graduated thousands upon thousands over the years, with at least 3 times that many attending, and then there are the "never-been-a-student" basketball fans from the tri-state area and beyond. I would say we have many tens of thousands of fans.

I think the board's a good indicator though. Water cooler talk at work seems to closely reflect what's being said on this board. Some "negative Nancy's" and some "sunshine pumpers".

The good thing is that most folks are watching and paying attention regardless.
